Hi Diddley Ho Saterinos

I'm new to the board, and have been a dish network installer for about a year now.

I live in a 16 unit apartment building with a direct single RG6 feed into each unit.

My question is , How can I give each unit its own Dish Network feed using the single RG6 line in each unit?

My first thought was to do 2 non pen roof mounted 1000 or Super Dishes dropped into a dpp44 switch then trunk another dpp44 switch for each 1000 or Super Dish, giving me 16 feeds, one for each unit.

As the cost of a dpp44 switch is a bit high and the owners of the building will be paying for this system, I'm looking for way to keep costs to a minimum.

Are there any other Sat gurus out there that can offer a cheaper solution to this question?
Or maybe I'm not thinking of this correctly.

Any and all input will be helpful

Thank you for your time

If each unit wants a dual tuner, how can I do this with 34s and not 44s?
if each unit wants a dual tuner, and you use dp34's as your switches then each unit needs 2 rg6 coax feeds

if you can only use 1 rg6 coax feed then dpp44's with line seperators are your only choice

dish just did announce dpp33's, but i think your better off getting dpp44's
check ebay they can be had there for bout half cost of dish etworks prices

As others have posted, I'm in total agreement with the DPP44 idea. I understand retailers are getting the DPP33's right now and as such, they MAY be trunked enough to get the 16 apartments that you desire. But once again, since it's a new item, I have no idea on the durability/reliability factor. $350 for 4 switches (approximately) isn't that bad of an initial upfront cost IMO.

500 with DP quad and a 500 at 61.5/129 depending on market with DP dual. 2 lines from DP 500 quad and 1 from DP dual to a DPP44 trunked to a second DPP. Do this again with a second set of lines out from the dishes to another set of DPP44 switches. That'll get you your 16 DPP lines. You will want to install power near the switches in a protected enclosure so that you can run the power inserters at that location and not have a vacant apartment messing things up. The DPP33 may be the better option and trunk 3 per parallel feed.

You can always go on ebay and find some stolen DP44 Switches for around $90 each brand new in the box if your concerned on cost.

But the DP44 is probably going to be your best bet.

The bigger challenge here would be getting the land lord to pay for anything, most of them expect you to work for FREE since they are letting you into their building to solicit new accounts.

nothing personal

But dude....that sounds over blown on the dish side.

(2) 1000.2s and (2) 44 switches is the goal I'm looking to achieve.

On a side note, The new 33 switch cant be trunked to another.
I just got back from Team Summit in Nashville TN. and this was covered in a training class by a Dish Network engineer.

Not to be a douche or anything

No, you are correct, I must have forgot.

I would think there would be more reliability going the two 500s route since you can get stronger signals on 129 that way. In fact, you might even go 24" dish for the 129. Also, if an LNB fails, customers will have the other satellite for some programming in the meantime.

I totally agree with using seperate dishes for the satellites. Hell, if you could convince them to pay for it, install 3 dishes, one for each location. That way if you ever have a dish get out of line, or an lnb die... its not as painful for the tenants.

Thats our preferred method in doing hotels and such, that way if there is a problem, its not as much of an "emergency"

Granted...it would be simpler to replace a single lnb or dish 300.
However, im going to need to use non pen roof mounts, thats alot of bricks and work to haul all that up 40 feet.

Not to mention the owners here HATE the looks of the dishes, so the fewer the better.

i hate to say it but direct.. use the new swm and put splitters in the line... thats the best i can come up w/... they should have run 2 to each apt... hell each room should have a dedicated line.

Why would the 44 switches on ebay be stolen? Where would they steal them from?

After talking with my boss and how we should do this, hes come up with doing a QAM for this building.

I thank you for all the good advice.

NOW........Where can I learn more about a QAM?

It takes one QAM transcoder for each transponder. I don't know how many ConUS transponders + your city's spot beams there are, but I'm sure its enough to make this a financial mistake.

Im kinda thinking on those same lines, but he wants to make the leap into commercial installs.

Changing his mind about this might be hard, however we arent even into the planning stage of doing an install like this yet, so I have time.

But I like dogs, but not kneeling down in a wet spot then having every dogs nose for the rest of the day glued to my knee.

Well, at $4k each, I'm sure he'll be changing his mind soon enough. Especially if the MDU owner is balking at the price of a DPP44 switch.
