Getting Sirius while away from 722

Is there any technology or equipment that would allow us to listen to Sirius while on the porch or yard that doesn't involve running speaker wire?

Here is what I do..

I have a 25 milliwatt FM transmitter attached to my AV receiver. Of course the ViP722 is also attached. Then I just use an FM radio out back.

Here is one.. Ramsey 100B FM Transmitter

I have had the 25B model (there is a link to that model available via the link shown above) for a couple of years and it works great.

These tansmitters are available in kits or fully assembled. Look around the net for the best price. I got mine on eBay.

The 1 watt model is not legal in the US. Also, if you are interferring with a neighbors reception of a station they want to hear, you must change your frequency or they can complain to the FCC. You could be fined after a warning. But why would anyone want to transmit on a frequency that is already being used in your area? The 25 milliwatt models are completely legal and the range I get is about 500 feet through walls. An external antenna could be used for better range but I don't use one. My neighbors can already get my "broadcasts". lol

This is WYES signing off.

any FM transmitter would work fine. You can pick them up at any consumer electronics store. You might need an adapter to go from the rca cables to a 1/8" plug but it will work

Another option may be considered more cost effective and is the one I use...

WSP150, RCA WSP150 900 MHz Wireless Stereo Speakers

RCA produces a very inexpensive 900 MHz base and speaker package that's available almost everywhere (I've seen it at Lowe's, Home Depot, Radio Shack, etc...). I picked mine up at OSH for less than $99 about 5 years ago. It still works great. I have the speakers installed just under the roof overhang, directly adjacent to the attaching patio cover/extension. The only requirement with this unit, just keep'em dry.

Now granted, mine is an earlier model and there are other's on the market, but I have seen the unit recently at Home Depot for or about $70, but you can spend upwards of hundreds depending on what you're looking for.

The unit actually puts out some decent sound (has a switch for extended bass). Each speaker has its own volume and frequency adjustment.

In any case, be it the FM or the 900 MHz transmitters, they both will require a reasonable distance from the source. That is to say, if you have to go through several walls, etc, it will impair the signal strength.

Here's a link to my unit: RCA Electronics Reviews - WSP150, WSP150 900 MHz Wireless Speakers - WSP150

Good hunting!

I'd get creative and see if there is a way to run wire and get a good set of outdoor speakers.

I already do, via Dish.

Yes has the answer - a FM transmitter sounds great. THANKS!

I think the original question is since we subscribe to it via dish we should be able to listen to it in our car.

NOPE, it's a courtesy.

They're trying to get the audio out of their 722 to enjoy on their porch and/or yard (patio) when one of the Sirius/Dish Audio Channels are selected via their 722.

They can use the 6.3 IR/UHF Remote to change channels from outside.

That's what I do ;) !!!

Actually the original question was how to listen to it on the porch or in the yard.

Unless you want to use the sound for a party or large group why not get wireless headphones? I listen to the MET Opera channel on Sirius via my 622 all the time and the sound of my Sennheiser wireless headphones is superb, even when I'm on my lawn tractor mowing my back yard. You can get them at Amazon.com for anywhere between $75 and $150, depending on model and features. I have not heard any wireless speakers that were any good at anywhere near that price. Of course, if you must have speakers and can't run wires then a wireless speaker is about all you can do. Remember though, once you move from the sweet spot of the sitting area your sound will be degraded, just like in your living room. Wireless headphones are the only way to achieve stereo (even surround) sound anywhere on your property.

i bought on ebay for 45 bucks a 900mhz wireless speaker produced by Acoustic Research. i think they from the same parent company terk and audiovox comes from, but anyways its a 20 watt amped 2 way speaker, and i can take it to the pool with my uhf remote and control the music. works great. nice thing with the model i have is that you can purchase a second speaker and designate seperate right/left speakers for stereo sound. now i would suggest that you invest in rechargeable batteries. they will pay for themselves really quickly.

Actually you could be fined and face possible jail time with or without a warning from the FCC for operating a pirate station. Also they could confiscate any equipment used for the transmission, in this case the dish equipment. That is of course if you use the 1 watt version.

BUT technically we are at war, and you can operate a private radio station under the law.

However just resending another company's signal might be illegal. But the FCC can't do anything if you operate a radio station under time of war.

And to other post, sorry I didn't read the OP correctly, I'm sorry.

U.S. Code of Federal Regulations title 47 section 73.3542

Thanks to George Bush for declaring the "War Against Terrorism" and U.S. Code of Federal Regulations title 47 section 73.3542, it is now technically legal to operate a radio transmitter with out a formal license.

True. The units I mentioned above come with the adapter cables.

This looks like it would work perfectly, but that unit is a little on the expensive side. Do you think this one would work?
Digital FM Transmitter

Hard to say. The specs don't say anything about ERP output. The radio signal may be too weak for your needs. There are units like this made especially for cars so you can play a portable CD player through your car radio, etc. I have found the signal barely reaches beyond the car itself. 8 feet?

A couple of people mentioned 900 mHz wireless speakers. Years ago I tried that as well but I needed more range. That is why I went with the Ramsey 25B. Again, this unit works great.

I can listen in my car as well. As long as the car is parked right outside the house. :D

Or this one. But now I see someone has already posted the C.Crane version - oops. The power is 250mV at 3m which they say is the max. allowed by the FCC.

I think you mean 25 mW.

Also, back on that hobbytron site, if you think you can handle it, that Ramsey 25B model is also available in kit form for less than $100.

If you like to play with eBay, check this out.. Ramsey FM Transmitters on eBay. Some real good prices going there.
