80 HD chans??!?!!???

I think the idea was that Dish is planning on adding maybe 15 new national "HD" channels by the end of the year. Since they promised 100 and Dish always comes through on what they promise Charlie figured that must mean they have "more than 80" right now. :D

What... Count each channel twice? D* has a claimed list and they back up their list. Right on their website. E* can't back up their list. Charlie and the adds claim one thing and the website claims another.

No, they don't count 'em twice...they do count RSN's, Pay movie channels, and Pay Per View...check out the comparison charts available on this site.

You are certainly correct about one thing, D* has a much clearer way of displaying their HD offerings...they lay it out all on one page...it does include locals, RSNs, Pay Per View, and Premiums = 95.

E* counts like this:

HD Ultimate (including PPV) + HD Locals + HD RSNs+ HD Premium Channels+WGN (later this week) = 82

And most of "everyone else" have been rapidly adding new HD over the last several months.

Well this is why, in the near future, probably some point next year...

virtually all major providers will have almost the same HD lineup...much like E*, D* and the cable and fiber companies do right now.

By next year the real difference between each company will be hardware, who offers the best deal/ customer service, and in some cases who happens to offer that one specialty channel you just can't live without.

In other words, we'll be right back to where we were before the HD "arms race" started...

Trust me I'm not doubting you ! I'm doubting E*.

Fair enough...

The strangest thing is...we all know that have the bandwith to match the D* HD count...

Why?

b/c they DID a few weeks ago...for one day...

The VOOM went away...

Yeah, I understand the need to negotiate contracts and such...but in terms of marketing...well, it just seems like an odd way to go...

Solve for X

2(X)= 80

How many channels was Charlie claiming after the new additions were added and before Voom was taken off. I'm referring to the announcement they made just before Voom was removed.

I can,t wait for the fishing channel to go HD. What a wonderful choice of programming. Charlie u r definitely a douchebag for wasting bandwidth on this crap.

Personally, I look forward to the Knitting Channel and the Sleeping Channel, so I can watch people sleep and knit in HD.

And what about the crapping channel. Oh, excuse me, there are enuff of those in the lineup now.

How right you are!!!!! The crap channelHD lol..

I dont know who is making the decisions if its a board or its Charlie but I think its time to clean house, because its just constant law suits and bad marketing.

Now that is an idea a law suite for lying either show the 80 HDchannels or lose billion of dollars(made that up just like the tuna who made up the number of HD channels)

Don't forget the lawn channel. After Charlie fertilizes it, you can watch the grass grow. And, given the potency of the fertilizer, it should grow quickly...:D

Since only one or two of the RSN's are available in each region in the U.S., these channels should not be counted as there is no way the majority of subscribers will have access to 99% of them.

Similarly, HD PPV's should not be counted because they are not available to subscribers without an additional fee per viewing. Charlie could have 200 HD PPV's and I wouldn't watch one of them. These are just additional revenue seeking channels and do not belong in a listing of subscriber HD channels.

I happen to agree that they should not count these...

but EVERY provider does...

E* can't suddenly stop counting this way or they suddenly look like they offer less HD than the competition...truth is they have just a few less than D* and a lot more than everyone else...I don't think they can afford to count any other way...

Charlie is very adept at dazzling us with his brilliance, AND baffling us with Bull Chit! Some of us have not learned that yet. I cringe to think what the next assemblage of twenty HD channels will represent.

Charlie should have had a seat in the Bush administration for the past 8 years . . . additionally, look at those call in/e-mail questions last night . . . like the president, there are only certain types of questions that Charlie and others would field; love to see them have a one hour open community discussion where there are no limits as to what can be asked (and yes I do understand that some things for legal reasons would not be able to be answered)

that's too good for ol charlie; he will probably waste more bandwidth with something like Game (deer, fox, rabbit, etc) Hunting in HD (WFN HD'S sister channel)

LMAO!!! :) :) :)
