My local CBS will no longer be on Dish

Remember the standard response when channels go away, "Dish is doing this to keep your rates low".

Is the affiliate available via antenna for you, Phil?

Yes, but I know a lot of people who don't want to use an antenna for just one channel. I'm not as mad as most people I know, but still. I hope they come to an agreement soon so I can get it in HD from E*.

But why not have an antenna up so that you can watch KOMU, KRCG, and KMIZ in HD now? That's what I do and I am certain the picture beats anything E* will provide us this summer.

I already have an antenna, but most people I know don't. I have an outdoor antenna, but KRCG is hit or miss for me still.

The only thing I don't like about KRCG gone is that there is no guide data listed for the OTA signal I receive. Of course, I haven't watched CBS since CSI stopped their new episodes. I guess this is a good time for the negotiations.

Same thing in my area WBRZ is still fighting Dish and of course the OTA guide info on the 722 is "Important News!" Very frustrating but at least it is only ABC and that was one of the many reasons I "moved".

They have got to do something in congress to get this issue resolved. The HD versions need to be in the 'must-carry' category. They are costing all of us money as Dish and Direct are forced to negotiate with every single local broadcaster just to serve a small segment of their subscriber base.

I am still hoping that these types of issues will finally bust the local monopolies on network programming but I know it won't happen. If I can't get CBS and FOX in HD (and barely ABC with their 30 milliwatt transmitter or whatever it is) then I should be able go elsewhere.

If I don't like the Safeway brand bread I can always go to Albertson's and get their store brand...

And who's going to fight for that? The few cable/satellite companies or the many smaller but more multiple networks who also happen to cover the politicians and whom they want a good deal for advertising from come election season?

This is the same reason the copyright laws keep getting extended. Companies like Disney (with a mouse who was about to loose the copyright on) have a lot more clout than the smaller organizations that would benefit from the change. Plus, is that really a platform a politician can easily create a soundbite on?

Sorry, not attacking you, just complaining of the system as well.

Another case of a local affiliate just being too greedy....

A local affiliate owned by a new corporation located in a separate state. They've done some stupid stuff to the station in an effort to make it more profitable. All it really has done is alienated the viewer base.

My thoughts exactly. A textbook example of how not to run a tv station. Getting rid of a long time, well respected sportscaster, the resignation of the general manager, and the retirement of a weather announcer that's been with the station for most of it's 50+ year history. The question is if it's greed or are they desperate for money, hence the 130% increase demand.
