Do you still have to pay a lease fee?

I talked on the phone with Dish today seeing what they would offer me and to see if they had any ideas for my 721. They told me I could upgrade to a 722 for $100 and some. I thought this was a rip off as I'd asked in the past and got told something like $79 or something. They said it would be leasing it though for both prices. I didn't ask anymore as I told them I didn't want to lease a receiver and I didn't want a contract and if they couldn't offer me something without the contract or leasing it I'd go to D*. I ended up just ordering a 722 from dishstore.net as I want to own it. Anyway I got to wondering do I have to pay a monthly lease fee or is once I pay the $129 or whatever they told me it was I can't remember the amount is that all I have to pay for the rest of the life of the receiver? I know it used to be more a month but I was wondering if it still is or if it's just that upfront cost. Doesn't really matter as I've bought my own and want to own it no matter the answer but I was just curious now. Thanks.

Depending on what basic package you have, there may only be a $2 DVR fee. If you sub to top 200 or higher, no DVR fee. Must ask for DVR Advantage which automatically includes your locals. Purchasing a receiver, outright, waves the lease fee. Purchasing the receiver doesn't require HD programming, but there will be a $7 HD enabling fee if you don't add HD chans. Is your 721 active ?

Additional receiver fee. Monthly cost of owning vs leasing is only about a dollar, I think. But - you have no contract, no upfront lease fee, and you might have residual value at the end when/if you sell it.

I have top 250 & pay the DVR fee. Only AEP lets you skip the DVR fee now. DVR is $5.98 per month per DVR (except grandfathered ones like the 721).

They had a great deal at Christmas time, search Christmas presents or something. I wish I had jumped then. I was afraid of the rebate problems that people were having. Oh well, no rebates now, but the price is up to $125 for me for a 722.

My friends, this is an old tune that I've tried to explain before. Everyone will pay a $7 fee for every HD box on your account (or $5 for SD boxes) whether you own or lease. The names are changed to charge the innocent. If you lease, it is called a Receiver Lease Fee. If you own, it is called an Additional Receiver Fee. I'm not certain if HD STB's qualify for the DVR advantage for DVR fee being waived. However, subscribing to AEP will waive all DVR fees for all your DVR boxes.

I know you want to own, but considering the high cost of the 722, it makes no sense to own STB's anymore. The lease really is the best offer. You will probably want to upgrade to the next generation STB long before your retail purchase will ever pay for itself, and you are not saving one penny on the $7: Dish sticks it to you by just changing the name of the fee. And when the day comes that you want to leave Dish, you will want to give them back their old leased STB as you won't have any real use for it--and it may even become obsolete as the technology changes ever more quickly. Owning made sense in the 1990's, but not anymore. Of course, you will have to own STB's if you want more than the 4 tuners Dish will lease.

So, owning will cost you over $400 out of pocket plus $7 per month. Leasing costs you $100 out of pocket plus $7 per month. Leasing really does make the most financial sense.

It is my understanding that the leased receiver fee is waived on the first receiver if customer qualifies under Dish'n It Up promotion?

Then you are saying HD STB's are also covered under DVR Advantage. Then I accept what you say. I just wasn't certain. No arguing here.
