Retailer Chat Recap - July 10, 2008

the rate I pay now for HD is 20 bucks, (grandfather hd pack) looks like the price for all hd will still be 20 , is that not going down from 29 bucks from feb increase?? I have AT250 with Hd add on for 20 bucks which gives me all Hd channels (minus the Movie channels). I thought the uped it to 29 here in Feb. I stayed at 20 due to being grandfathered. It looks to me like it is going back to 20 bucks if you have SD AT250 and are just adding on. Am I reading Wrong?

So Aug 1st, the HD Only Pack becomes Turbo HD Gold, and adds RSN's for $39.99. By my math, that means HD Only package gets RSN's for an extra $10 per month. And it appears that if you want to keep all HD channels currently offered in the HD Only pack, you have to get RSN's. If you don't want RSN's, you get the Turbo HD Bronze, and lose 15 HD channels for $25. Seems like we are getting screwed again.

I cant believe that Dish is already raising the price on the HD Only pack that they just added a few months ago. Bastards.

Well it's great to have the entire suite of HBO in HD plus an additional cinemax channel, but I am disappointed that we won't be seeing FX or Spike for a few more months now. Hopefully FX will be up by the fall when their shows return with new episodes.

Damn...we're going through a career change in my home and tried to cut back on luxuries here and there. I put it off for a few weeks waiting for an announcement like this. When it looked like they were doing nothing, I killed all my premiums except Showtime, because I was right in the middle of several series. So of course, that's the package that gets NOTHING :(

So, is HBO Zone going to be HD only like Direct does for some of the Starz?

EDIT- also, no one mentioned that "HBO en Espanol" is not a channel either. The spanish channel is "HBO Latino", and it IS slightly different than HBO.

How the hell are they going to justify a $20 increase in the current HD only pack? Am I not reading this right?

I have the AEP plus the top HD pak and spend $152/month. Is it going to cost me more for the additional HD channels?

Why would it cost more? The HD add on packs are still the same price.

For that matter, why are you paying $152? I was paying $120 for AEP, HD Ultimate, dual DVR, and locals before I cut back.

You're reading right, but your wrong about what happened in February. It's still $20 to add on.

I also have the sports pak, superstations, and programming guide. Plus I'm sure there are DVR fees and lease fees in there somewhere.

I am going to wait for all of the smoke to clear (that could be a while) before I decide which pak to go to.
I have the hd only plus locals. Like a poster before me stated, $10 and I get my rsn also. Not bad. I wonder like the rest of you, will I get the newer hd channels when they are lit up???

I think that includes some bae package as well. But it is not clear,

What's a bae?

It says 25/33/40 for the add ons (bronze/silver/gold). That doesn't include the extra $10 for the extra 7 HD only channels. (Way to not fix your biggest pricing problem, DISH.)

It ALSO says 25/33/40 for the Turbo packs. So, I'm reading that it doesn't even include the extra 7 channels.

The math is questionable all around, considering they now say 28/33/39. They SHOULD be adding 1 channel to Bronze, 2 to Silver, and 4 to Gold.

I had better get the new HD channels. That's the only reason I signed up for this anemic package. I'm getting tired of getting jerked around, even if it is cheaper.

But, you might lose HDNet Movies, Universal, and those other extra 7 channels.

I can't believe no one asked them to clarify this. If those 7 channels are included in the "Turbo" packs, then the change in pricing seems relatively fair. But based on their channel counts, it doesn't.

TurboHD isn't the add ons. TurboHD is HD Only. There are now going to be multiple HD Only options - B/S/G. And these should include the extra 7 channels, although the math does not appear to add up.

Wait -- am I understanding correctly that the bronze/silver/gold are the add-on packs, replacing essentials and ultimate? I've got AT200 plus the $10 essentials now... so the cheapest I'll walk away from this after August 1 is AT200 plus $25?

Surely I misunderstand.
