Not a good week for sat-tv

I am having Dish problems with my switches there, (See other thread), and now my Bell system can't see 82

I took out the switches, and connected an 82 to input 1 and an 91 to input 2 of the 9242 receiver.

The 91 is fine, the 82 says 'X' for satellite and it keeps searching on satellite 'X' of transponders.

Is my 82 lnb bad?
Can it say 'X' if the dish is mispointed alot, like by huge winds?

What exactly does the 'X' satellite mean, instead of 82 or 91?

Does it mean a sat was found, but it couldn't figure out what it was? Like if a storm moved the dish over?

Can I still go to 'dish point' and point the 82 even if my check switch says 91 and 'X'? Then when I get a signal, on 82, do a check switch again and it will say 82?

Well, here is the answer to my own question...

YES, the 'X' can mean the dish is not pointed right.

My 82 dish had moved about 3 inches due to high winds

Put it back, Input 2 saw it, sw21, 91/82 on on input 2

Input 1, down, switched switches, problem stayed with 1, switched inputs to rcvr, problem moved from 1 to 2.

So it points to a bad wire burried in the ground.

Jeeeesh....why can't this be easy!

Do you have a sat meter? Even a cheap $30 one will make issues like this a lot easier to figure out. The meter will tell you if there's power coming from the receiver on that line and if there is signal being received from the dish.

Duh...I actually have a birdseye meter. Good point. I'll get it out and check the wire out.

My EVU is all fixed.

It was the wire, but at the point right before it goes in the ground

I pulled out the bad loop of wire, barrelled the 2 pieces together, worked perfectly so I slatherred on silicone all around, making a tight seal on it and all my connections for EVU.

Next, back to my Dish problems
