About 3 weeks ago my neighbor had some trees taken out of her yard.Well the tree guys misjudged the way the tree was going to fall and took out my Dish. They agreed to pay for the service call and so Dish comes out and puts me up a new antenna.I however dont get the same great signal I once did.:(Well last week my 622vip goes out.The 1# TV TUNER goes out on the box .Dish once again comes out and swaps my box for the 722vipdvr.I asked the tech if he could transfer my recordings from the 622 to the 722.He told me he did not know how.He acted like he didnt even know what a USB port is..I had alot of great programming on that receiver to.I just wish Dish could better inform their techs.I would of even paid the $39.95 fee :hungry:to enable the dvr to make the transfer.I guess I will go and buy an external drive this time so it want happen again. It would be a great idea if Dish could in future model receivers make a swappable hard drive that they could just swap from receiver to receiver .Anyone else have this similiar thing happen?

sorry man, but......transferrring recordings from one DVR to another, or anywhere for that matter, is outside an installers lane. thats the customers problem, and it should be taken care of BEFORE the installer shows up. otherwise its too late.

there are a million possible complications on such a transfer and no installer is going to take that on-that can major screw up his day and the day of the rest of his customers.

the installer see's none of that $40.00 enabling fee.

Hey, I'd be glad they swapped the 622 for the 722. But really, I don't think there is a way to simply connect 2 receivers and do a swap without a EHD go-between. Sorry, dude, you should have asked around here before the tech showed.

Ya thanks, I am happy they did swap the 622 for the 722.Im just going to buy an external drive now.

They should have a way for techs to connect the two units together, hit a special code and transfer your shows..Wouldnt be too hard..

do you have any idea how long that transfer would take? not with 3 new connects and 3 service calls in a day, im never going to agree to do that.

Well yes, he COULD have asked. But most Dish subs don't read this forum and Dish's crappy-ass tech support people are the ones who SHOULD have asked or at least mentioned this problem when they arranged the exchange.

It shouldn't be our job to be knowledgable about Dish's equipment, that is what tech support is supposed to be for - many of us reading these forums do it because we like to know these things.

I know it's probably not likely but Dish, and other providers, should consider these eventualities and come up with a better solution. Hardware is going to fail and people are going to be pissed when they lose their 350 gigabytes of programming that they thought they 'owned.' I know that this is mostly the bastard studios looming over the providers threatening ridiculous lawsuits but we should never accept this erosion of our fair use rights!

Had I NOT been knowledgeable about Dish equipment, I would have wasted a lot of time. When I had a problem with Tuner 2 of my 622 (non-responsive), the Tech wanted to send me a new remote control. I refused and demanded a service call. Of course the box was bad, and replaced. NO company, EVER, EVER, EVER, will spend the money required to properly train techs to trustworthy levels. Just will not happen. So, get to know your stuff.

I dunno on that. When I went through the 6 weeks + training with DNS I felt like it prepared me pretty well for what laid ahead. True I had already worked on some legacy stuff but I thought it was pretty straight forward. I think the bigger question is who will work for the low wages they pay. Thats why you have the revolving door and techs who dont give a crap most of the time.
