As opposite to now completed easten arc, does western arc really exit?
I often heard ppl mention western arc as 110/119/129, is this really the case?
If so, is the western arc also broadcast entirely in MPEG4 like the new completed eastern arc?

Yes, it exists now.

Yes. A satellite will be launched to 129 around the end of the year with many spot beams.

NO.

PS Eastern Arc will not be completed until late September.

Us here in the west are stuck with MPEG2 SD channels for the forseeable future. It is going to take Dish a long long time to swap out all the old MPEG2 SD receivers nationwide. Over 13 million subs nationwide, and maybe 10 to 20 percent of them have HD. Most of them have more than one receiver, and at least one of them is MPEG2 only. There could be something in the neighborhood of 20 million receivers they would need to swap out!!!

THe western arc will only really exist when all subs are upgraded to mpeg 4 receivers. Then DISH can turn off the mpeg 2 and you will have the same mpeg 4 quality that the eastern arc will have eventually. The good news is once the Ciel sat going to 129 is up and running the complaints about drop outs will go away. That one step will help DISH in attracting new subs. How many people tell their neighbors and friends how bad the service is when their hd drops out? Bad Word of mouth is killing them.

Keep calm for the next few months and things will be better. Charlie has confirmed the lease of all the capacity on Ciel 2 at 129 - expect to see it up and running by year end. Add that to some extra capacity that E11 will bring on line due to slightly higher transmission powers and the shifting of some locals to 61.5 and the West problems will be essentially gone.

But does MPEG4 really make any difference with the SD channels? I have read other posts that suggest that the MPEG4 SD feeds will actually be worse than the MPEG2. Is that possible?

didn't you experience drop-outs with the 129 reception? Thought I remember some of your posts indicating such.

YES and I no longer use 129 lbn on my 1000.2 sat dish. I use the 61.5 sat dish connected to my 1000.2 sat dish. I covered my 129 lnb with foil and ran a check switch and no more 129. THe 61.5 sat is solid and my hd locals are there too.

on the subject of 129, I've always had lip sync issues with it, anyone else?

129 would not have anything to do with lip sync. You might try changing the lip sync settings on your receiver. Menu->system setup->installation->TV 1 Audio Sync.

It will be interesting to see how the MPEG-4 SD compares with the MPEG-2 SD, considering posts showing the lowered the horizontal resolution. I will be waiting on the review and comparisions before I switch. Currently I have both 61.5 and 129.

I live in st louis and have 110.118.5 (HD locals), 119, and 129.
would I be better off getting HD from 61.5 and not use 129?
