My favorites !

The Lauren Hart/Kate Smith Duo always gave me goose bumps when seeing it live.

What I hate is they idiots who talk through, don't get out of their seat, won't take off their hat or won't show any respect for our country when the song is sung. If they are sitting in front of me, they sometimes get a little beer spilled on their seat when they get up to cheer for their team.

I've always liked the Whitney Houston version of the anthem. It was the 1st Super Bowl my Bills were in and with the country at war in Iraq/Kuwait at the time, it felt like it had extra importance/meaning to it. Yes, I know she was lip-synching at the stadium. I just went and searched for it on Youtube and found it and it sent chills down my spine.

Marvin's version is very cool though.

I did the same thing yesterday. I've always loved Whitney, and yes that version was chill inducing. :up

It was worth the price of admission just to here Wayne Messmer belt out the anthem with 18,000 people cheering in the old Chicago Stadium during it ! Wow , it brought a lump to your throat !!

When I worked for the defunked Chicago Sportschannel, we also covered the Blackhawks and the ONLY TIME that I would stop what I was doing, was o hear Wayne Messmer sing the Star Spangled Banner.....

Was she lip-synching?

I hated the Marvin Gaye version. I don't like when people screw around with a song and change the way it is sung. To me it isn't the same song.
I agree. While Marvin Gay may have done a great job singing Sexual Healing, I have little tolerance for artistic impression (in this case Gay's Motown twist) when it comes to the playing and singing of our National Anthem. As much as I loved Jimi Hendrix' artistic rendition of the National Anthem at Woodstock, it has absolutely no place in a public venue.

You are not stating that giving it artistic change makes you less patriotic are you?

No one specific but feels a bit more special during hockey playoff season especially when its a US/Canada matchup

If I can steel a Catch Phrase....Seems to have a bit more electricity in the air

Why? Have you actually listened to it? IMO, there is more "feeling" put into this Marvin Gay version than the majority of the monotone recitals that seem like the singer is more interested in "getting it over with" than putting actual feeling and meaning into the song. To me, the Marvin Gay version has much more of an impact.

+1 :up. "Feeling" being the key word.

Because??? I mean does it make it LESS patriotic?:confused:

Just a matter of personal opinion. I just believe somethings shouldn't be messed with. Just like I don't think someone should wear the American flag as a shirt. I don't think the song was changed to make it less patriotic...I think it turned out to sound less patriotic the way he sang it.

Yes! I am glad you liked it...I didn't.;)
