ViP 622 & 722 Running Bug Thread

I'm on my second 722 now and it just started having the reboot constantly problem, too. I had the first one for maybe 9 months before it started, this one only about 3 months. I hate some of the crappy electronics people put out on the market nowadays... Looks like it's another call to Dish for another replacement... Maybe I'll get lucky this time and get one that lasts >6 months again...

It seems that the lastest version of software L613 is affecting people who run HDMI for audio and video. Anybody else having problems?

My 622 lost audio last night over the HDMI input. I connected up Component cables and audio and everything worked fine.

Guess it's just the audio HDMI output that's screwed by the L613 version.

Just called about my 2 week old 622 which replace my 1.5 year old 622. constant rebooting- after update last night- no update on 722- sending me another and I'll try some things with old one-
After an hour unplugged still rebooted - then noticed receiver had a smart card inside- not built in but actual card- took it out rebooted - receiver came up with info screen showing no smart card - insert card - still dont work- oh well - no tv for me

622 crashing if I try to change any timers

Ever since my 622 got L6.14, any attempt to use skip/restore or modify an existing timer in any way (including deleting a timer) will cause a crash and reboot. I tried a hard reset by pulling the power cord out but that made no difference.

Re: 622 crashing if I try to change any timers

I think I found a solution for this. I thought maybe something was corrupted in the timers, so I decided to try deleting them all and re-creating them. (I had about 40.)

Deleting them caused another crash and reboot, which I expected. The first time I tried to create a new timer (to start putting all my old ones back) it crashed again, so I guess it wasn't the timers themselves.

Then I figured it must be the program guide data that was corrupted. I remembered reading somewhere else that doing a check switch will usually cause the receiver to reload the guide data, so I did a check switch and it did sit there for almost 10 minutes fetching new guide data.

Then I proceeded to put back all my timers and not a single crash. Tried using skip/restore and no problems with that either. So I suspect that just forcing a reload of the program data by doing a check switch would have cured the problem without the hassle of having to re-add all my timers.

I just started having a problem with the aspect ratio control (format button) on TV 2. I don't know if this is related to the L6.14 update.

I run my 622 in dual-mode. My TV 2 is a standard definition, 4x3 CRT. IIRC, when viewing an HD channel on TV 2, I had two choices. One was "Letterbox", which would give me the full 16x9 picture with black bars above and below. The other choice would zoom to fill the screen, which was appropriate for upconverted 4x3 SD on the HD channels. The black edges, which would be pillarboxed on a 16x9 display, were cropped out so the original 4x3 content now filled my 4x3 display (in "Letterbox", this content would be windowboxed on my 4x3 TV 2).

Something has changed in the past few days. Now, instead of two choices, I have the same four or five options as on TV 1 (which is connected to an HD 16x9 display). I have "Normal", "Gray Bar", "Stretch", "Partial Zoom", and "Zoom". None of these are correct. I can no longer get HD content to properly display (16x9 active picture with black bars above and below) on TV 2. Regardless of the format, it's always zoomed in so that there are no black bars above and below, and I can't see the edges of the picture. What happened? I tried rebooting the receiver but it doesn't fix the problem. I can "lie" about the aspect ratio of TV 1 in the menu, and set it to 4x3, and this does fix the problem on TV 2, but of course now TV 1 is screwed up since it's connected to a 16x9 display.

Seems like the last update fixed the problem of the "little picture in the upper left corner", but has now introduced "broken aspect ratio control".

OTA Recording Problem for Some Atlanta Channels

My equipment consists of 2 VIP 622's, a 1000.2 for 110, 119, and 129 and a dish 300 for 61.5, and a DPP44 switch. I am in the Atlanta DMA and receive the network HD channels (2, 5, 11, and 46) from satellite and the network HD channels plus 17, 36, and 43 OTA.

Several months ago timers set for the network channels OTA (2, 5, 11, and 46) started becoming inactive if I set them 1 or more days in advance. The timers are still there, but the events disappear from the schedule after the nightly schedule update. If I set a timer to record all new episodes on OTA (2, 5, 11, and 46) for a show the following day, they never show up on the schedule for the following week as they do when I set the same timer for a satellite channel or OTA 17, 36, or 43. Timers set to any satellite channel or OTA 17, 36, or 43 work fine.

I now have L614 on both receivers, but the problem started before I had L614. I have spent several hours with Dish customer service, but they have no ideas. I have the identical problem on both receivers which are of different hardware vintages.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to overcome this problem or what is causing it? I presently have to set any OTA timers for 2, 5, 11, or 46 for a program later that day. This is not terrible as there are generally only 2 times a week that I need to record 3 programs at the same time on one of the receivers.

I just started having a problem with the aspect ratio control (format button) on TV 2. I don't know if this is related to the L6.14 update.

I figured it out. I accidentally switched to single mode. I was trying to hit the power switch in the dark and I didn't realize I had hit the mode switch. When I changed channels on TV 2, and TV 1 changed with it, I realized I had accidentally switched modes.

Incomplete EPG

Has anyone had this experience with their 622?

Yesterday afternoon, I noticed my 622 was indicating "No Info" for programming on all channels more than 1-3 hrs in advance of the current time. I tried rebooting the receiver using the front panel switch and removing the AC power, with no joy. I called Dish. The service tech tried to reload the EPG on my receiver, again with no joy. He arranged to replace the 622, indicating this was not a common problem with this unit. I put the 622 to sleep for overnight. This AM, when I wake it up, the EPG is complete!

I really don't care to replace the 622 if I don't have to, considering all the timers, etc.

Any suggestions?

BTW, I never saw the message "Downloading EPG" during any of the attempts to make it happen yesterday. Also, I'm using L614

Try a check switch to force the EPG to download.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I need a bit more info. First, I'm recording a program, so I don't want to try this right now. But looking at the manual, it says "select check switch to display the installation summary screen." Then it goes on "Select Test only if directed by the CSR." I take it, running "Test" is what you are referring to. Correct? The CSR did not tell me to try this last night, rather he attempted to force it from the headend. Any complications in running "Test"?

I have been upgraded to 6.14 for about a week now and here are some problems I currently have...

I also get the black screens, both OTA and Sat
Dropped audio (had this with 6.13 also)
Picture jitter...used to get this with SD only, but now get with HD
Lower signal threshold on OTA signals

Using VIP622 connected to a Toshiba plasma using component and optical cables.

622 has been freezing usually while swapping channels. Not sure if it's software but I think problems started then. On my third 622 in last few weeks. Thinking about swapping my 722 and 622 to see if it's a in house electrical issue.

My 622 has just developed a new problem. The timers on the OTA channels are no longer recording. Even deleted some of the timers and re-created the recording schedule for the show - they still do not work! This is OTA channels only...

I think i figured out the audio sync problem on the 622. If youre using digital optical audio hook up an hdmi for video. If you just have the regular red/white audio hookup use the three wire hd analog vidieo hook up. I did that and my audio sync probs disappeared.

My 622 is hooked up both ways (HDMI and component video with TOSLINK audio) and I rarely have ANY lipsync problems. If I do it is usually OTA and reproducable on Dish and other ATSC tuners.
