NBA League Pass preview 2008 question

Without a contract it could be extended I suppose, but I'm not sure what the motivation of the NBA would be to do that.

Two sides negotiate because they each want something.

Free Preview is a free sample, and gets customers to experience the product - it increases sales, and is good for both the channel and the provider.

While some NBA fanatics will switch to DirecTV, many Dish customers will not bother, and then NBA and Dish both lose the income of those League Pass subscriptions.

NBA's contract with other satellite and cable outlets for League Pass obviously does not prohibit free showings, because the broadband Free Preview continues until the 11th. Also, there are free games on ESPN, TNT, etc.

The Guide now shows a full slate of games tonight, by the way.

PS Two excellent, famous 1980's playoff games today on NBA-TV (free preview on channel 560):

- 1pm ET is a famous Michael Jordan game

- 4pm ET is the famous Sleepy Floyd game

ESPN, TNT, ABC, NBC whatever.....Those people have to pay for broadcast rights. They are not free. Those deals are paid for by advertising dollars. The NBA gives nothing away free, not should they.

As for the NBA losing if people switch from Dish??? How do you figure? They will just buy it from Direct and the NBA will get it's money that way

I checked my guide and it is full as well. This as I said earlier is great news. Hopefully Dish got permission to continue the free preview.

Talked to Dish today

I am hearing (although nothing official) that the free preview will continue on Dish Network as positive negoations are going on with the NBA.

They hope to have things settled by the end of the week.

The CS rep I spoke to said that it ended last night and they were sorry and all that. How they cant have figured it out by now amazes me.. but i guess we wait..
Blazers vs Jazz tonight is what i was waiting for.

It's listed on channel 569 right now. We will see if it actually airs.

Please read more carefully before responding.

What I said was that while some NBA fanatics would switch to DirecTV for League Pass, many Dish subscribers will not switch ( due to 24 month commitments, trees blocking 101 West, or just not worth the trouble of switching ). Thus, if Dish and NBA do not come to an agreement, both NBA and Dish lose League Pass subscription money.

PS As far as ESPN, TNT, etc. I am referring to "free to viewers", i.e. same as Free Preview.

According to Dish Network's Website... "NBA League Pass is available in Free Preview today on channels 560 - 572"

That was the same thing it said yesterday. The schedule on their website still lists yesterday's games as well. I think if anything it's more them not updating it than anything else.

It is encouraging that the games show up on my tv schedules through the guide though.

We shall see.

NBA-TV League Pass Free Preview is still running, currently showing the 1987 "Sleepy Floyd" game... and as noted elsewhere, still no changes of any sort today by Dish Network.

Does that mean shannel 560 is showing the same thing as channel 402? I always get channel 402, but I think it's cause I get every channel. Is nbatv part of a higher package that not everyone gets?

Yes, 560 shows the same as 402 (including HD), but 560 is part of League Pass, while 402 is part of America's Everything Pack and Multi-Sports Pack and 402-HD is also part of the DishHD Platinum Pack.

Well then that is a good sign I guess. I called AGAIN to dish netwrok and spoke to a lovely csr who told me that the free preview was still on but could go black at any time.

Are those League Pass HD games the same ones that are shown on Regional HD channels ?

Or does Dish have to host HD matches that are not otherwise available to anyone other than through League Pass ?
