Does anyone know the real reason why DN limits customers to no more than four (4) HD tuners per household? In my case, I have a VIP622 and VIP722--each with two (2) HD tuners. I want to add another HD TV, but DN will not allow me another tuner. DN reps have given me multiple and conflicting reasons. Curious if anyone on this forum know the 'real' reason.

That is not a hard and fast rule. (I assume you are talking about leasing, because I think the limit is 8 if you own some). Send an email to the CEO address and they will likely allow you to lease more (assuming you have more than the minimal packages).
I think they're just cautious about how much capital they have tied up in one customer. And they've certainly made exceptions in the past. It would help to have a good payment history and a bill around $100 or so.
Without any real issues you can have 6 receivers on your account. They can all be 2 HD tuner ones if you wish. Dish just will not give new customers more than 4 tuners on a lease (you have to buy extra ones), after you are established and have a high bill they will make exceptions to the 4 lease tuner limit. They will also make exception to the 6 receiver limit (if you want to keep buying them).
Its a 4 tuner limit to keep everyone in check.
As a sales partner, we sell hundreds of systems per month and the 4 tuner limit covers 99% of all the installations out there.
The only issue I see with more than 4 HD Tuners is when customers have HD and prefer to use a 622 or a 722 on 1 television, but then again thats why we have the 612 which counts only as 1 tuner!

I have a 622, a 722, a 211 and a 301. SO I have 3 hd tuners as of now. the 301 is gonna go soon because it will be replaced by a LCD Display in Brothers roon and I will need to get another 211 or 211k.
$$$$$$. As an earlier post suggested, Dish wants to put a limit on how much money they are going to spend per subscriber. The limit is for LEASED boxes/tuners, meaning the tuners that DIsh pays for either whole or in part for you to have. It seems a reasoanable limitation becasue they really don't know if you are going to leave them immediatly after the committment. A few long-time, high-spending customers MAY get an exception to the rule (several MPEG2 HD customers were granted an exception to the rule because they had already paid full-retail for and owned the outdated boxes, and Dish wanted to make good on the customer's investment), but this may be a sub they feel isn't going to leave them soon. But as a rule the 4 leased tuner limitiation is pretty firm.
Of course, you are welcome to purchase as many boxes/tuners as you wish to add to your 4 tuner system, (limit of 6 boxes per household account), but you will have to pay for any additional installation or new LNBF's or switches to make it work. It's not an issue of money tied up. It's an issue of money at risk. The more units per customer, the more damaged or repairable product that requires attention when a customer quits or needs to replace it. Each box sitting on a sub's account is another $5+ a month, so that's more or less of an issue. But your average customer needs no more than 4 tuners anyhow.
622 and 722 count as 2 tuners each totally 4. With the 211 that's 5 tuners. Do you own or lease these?
I just had a go-round with Dish two weeks ago about this. As it was explained to me (if I understood it), you can have up to 12 tuners, they just won't lease you more than 4. I have 3 HDTVs, two 622s (my limit), a 211, a 501 and 508. I've been with them since their first year, and I couldn't get them to budge on leasing me a third receiver. I'll be selling the latter two soon, and wanted to lease a 722 to replace them. IMHO they are not keeping up with customers who are upgrading all their TVs to HD. As prices continue to drop more people will .....................

You have to go through the CEO office, but at one time, I had 4 622's and 4 211's on my account. I now have 2 622's, a 722 and 4 211's

As noted in my sig I have a 722, a 622 and a 322 all leased (that is 6 tuners - albeit only 4 of them HD).
I have two ViP722 dual satellite tuner HD DVRs, and one 508 single satellite tuner SD DVR. Former is leased, latter is owned. There are only two of us in the house most times now. I expect at some point I will sell the 508 and make that TV OTA only, using the attached DTV PAL. That TV is SD, others are HD. OK, I also have an SD TV in the exercise room.
I got the ViP722 vice the ViP612 because the specs were better, not because of any second TV capability. They should up the ViP612 to match the ViP722, save for the second TV, and address it's other complaints. THEN it would be seen as a comparable option to more of us.

I have been a customer for six years with AEP/HD and autopay. Perfect record. When I sent a very nice/polite email to CEO requesting to exceed the 4 tuner limit, they said no. After reading posts from others saying they were successful, would CEO roulette be the correct term?
Before I left E* in Feb this year, I had two 622s, tried for 3 months to get another 622 on the lease, no deal, moved to DirecTV, now have four 2-tuner HD DVRs on lease with D*. Brought with me no less than hundreds if not thousands subs to sign on with D* because in the process I discovered a great AAA member new customer deal.
After two months E* called me back gave me a great deal to go back, I accepted a 625 to get one of their international packages for my tenant. At one time I thought about switching back to E* but they continued to insist only 4 tuner lease, not to mention the higher HD receiver fee and multiple DVR fees.
I can't even begin to think how many high paying subs had left E* and gone to D* as a result of such stupid policy.
After two months E* called me back gave me a great deal to go back, I accepted a 625 to get one of their international packages for my tenant. Sorry to hear that was the response, it must be a sign of the times, as i am one of those that have been allowed to exceed that rule.
I wonder though, have you tried asking to swap a 622/722 for a 612 ? Do you need the 2 tv outs, if not the 612 may be an answer or a 211 with an EHD, if you only are looking for a dvr to one tv, no dvr fee either.
That way you could get the extra rcvr you wanted and avoid the 4 tuners rule.
just a thought anyway.
Besides the tuner, it takes another switch cascaded on the first if I am not mistaken. Is this true? Switches are quite expensive in themselves (the 4's, that is). At least when I bough mine to allow 5. I have since backed down to 3 tuners.
