Questions about buying a 722

I was just wondering what I should expect to pay to purchase a 722. I see the price at DishStore is $369, which seems good. I also see them on eBay from sellers with 100% feedback for around $300, which obviously seems better.

What about refurbs? What do they generally go for, and is it worth it to save a few bucks? Are they that much cheaper? What about the warranty? Is it as good as new units? In fact, what is the warranty on new units? (And, how can I tell if a unit is a refurb? "R" number? Packaging?)

Thanks.

Buy on ebay from a 100% feedback seller. Ask them if its new or a refurb before bidding and also get the R00... number and check with E* that it can be activated.

You will save money and still get a 1 year warranty from date of activation.

Refurbs only have a 3 month warranty where a new unit has a 12 month warranty. Even if you get a used reciever without any warranty left, you can add the $5.99 DHPP warranty to get a reciever replaced if you have any issues.

I bought a brand new one on ebay during Christmas. Ebay gave me a 10% off coupon, and I ended up paying $253 with shipping included. SWEET deal.
Same here, although I had to pay shipping. :( My ebay 722 has been running perfectly since day 1. Can't understand how other dealers are trying to sell inferior models for more $$$.

Wrong. Refurbs have a 12 month warranty as well. E* goes by the date of activation on the account.

The referbs also have a 1 year warranty.

The new units we sell on Dishstore are $399, not the $369 mentioned earlier in this thread.

The whole issue with ebay is that your buying STOLEN equipment!

The fact of the matter is just to get the unit in my door to sell to you it costs me atleast $379 when I factor in the shipping charges to get the unit shipped from DISH Network to my store. Im only making $20 in most cases and IF it gets activated properly I might get a small commission from DISH on the back end.

But I see the prices on ebay all the time, and they are well below my cost. Im currently one of their Top 100 retailers, there is just no way someone is going to get a better price wholesale from DISH Network than me unless they are stolen!

If they are stolen, why does Dish Network activate them? And where are they stolen from? It easy to track them by R00... numbers. I frankly doubt they are stolen.

Is it possible they are models that were supposed to be leased?
No, they are not leased! Dish won't activate a leased receiver, unless they themselves leased it to you. I had a nice lady in Wisconsin sell me a leased receiver which she honestly thought she owned. She refunded my money including shipping.

I'm surprised at Claude's "stolen" assertion. I suppose, if others can't get a better discount than he, then perhaps we're buying dealers' inventory when the dealer has gone belly-up.

I couldn't imagine that being the case. I have always suspected that people in the production facilities get an incredible buy on them, being at the top of the distribution chain. I could be wrong, of course, but in no way believe they are stolen.
I've bought a half a dozen new receivers from ebay over the years without ever a hitch.

Somehow maybe Dish lets them loose and cough, cough, wink, wink, they're in the filed drawing income on the programming which is where Dish makes their real money. I bought my 622 on eBay 26 months ago and no call from Dish to get it back when I deactivated it for a month to remodel. These receivers are like cell phones, just a vehicle the company uses to make money on something else.

Mine wasn't bought for the low prices these other fellas are claiming so maybe it was always legit but there is no way that Dish is allowing a large number of hot receivers to sell online and not investigate where they originate from. With the identification these units have, Dish has to know where they've been and how they got there. Just my 2 cents.

That certainly seems logical enough.

I tried to sell my old 301 on ebay and with in 2 days dishnetwork sent me an email including ebay that I can not sell my 301 because there was a PPV purchase I did not pay for on the unit. I have a 722 and I did not know there was even a fee on my 301. Then they said sorry I see it was paid for and taken care of and then they said I could not sell the 301 because of the card I have that goes with it. it can be hacked to easy and 301 can not be sold on ebay. SO my question to you is how can dish let ebay sell stolen property if they check all recievers that sell on ebay?
