Indy HD locals tomorrow

My guess is technical. Also saw WTTV uplinked. But that might be a while since the digital delay and freeing up the WXIN tower. Regardless, my goose is cooked. No way no how I can get 129 on my property. So my quandary is: Stay with Dish and get a 722k which they said they would do. Or, go to Direct, with whom I have install scheduled in two weeks and save about $400.00 for a year. This has been a TOUGH decision. It's the Dish equipment I don't want to loose, but...

I'd take the 722K and OTA any day over satellite locals. Better PQ, and having something to watch during rain fade events are just two reasons. Protection from future Dish contract disputes is another good reason to stick with OTA.

Since the main TV season is almost over and I'm surviving with just one OTA tuner now, I'm waiting for the 922 to be released and reviewed. Then I'll go with either a 922 or a 722K.

I cannot speak for the other Indy stations, but WRTV, (ABC) Channel 6 will not have any HD programming up until our 5pm newscast. There may be a news promo or 2 in HD, but unless you want to sit thru "Judge Judy". (I work here and I can't even do that), at 5 then all three stations will be doing their newscasts in HD!!!...:up

I will be waiting for the reports!!!!!!

The reason you have a 61.5 is probably because you have LOS problems, as do I. Sat 129 fairly low to the horizon. Don't touch it the 61.5 dish and get it out of alignment. We're up the creek.

I would make sure you do have a LOS to 129 before moving your dish, but if you can determine that you do, then do it. I had a dish looking at 61.5 originally because there were some Indy locals on it at one time, but they moved them all to 110 a few years ago. Then when I got my HD receiver I did move my wing dish over to 129, (I did have LOS to it) to get FSN Cincinnati HD for the Reds games.

Well, I would still have OTA during rain fade...direct to TV. If I do go with D*, I will get the AM21 OTA module. The other thing making it difficult is the reports about the not-so-great OTA tuners on the 722K. I probably would NEVER get channel 4 before they move WTTK to the WXIN tower.

Yeah - I think a firmware update or two is in order for the 722K. I was amazed I was actually able to record Reaper last week with only a dozen or so minor drop-outs.

There really is no perfect provider right now. I've heard that adding an AM21 to an HR-series on DirecTV really slows everything down, plus it can only record two shows at once. Comcast's DVRs are horrible and they have about 1/3 the HD channels, while UVerse has substandard PQ.

I think the 722K/922 with OTA will ultimately make me the happiest of all these choices. But I'm going to wait a little awhile before deciding.

OK, c'mon. The news has been on for 45 min..REPORT!!!

Yep HD, looks good... I've already went through all my timers, deleted the ones that were on SD locals (because I was recording on two locals at the same time) and reprogrammed them using the new HD locals and OTA. Very nice!!! Even without NBC, it still give you a lot more options to recordin HD!

WTTV-HD has not been uplinked at all. Sure you weren't looking at DirecTv? There are no 51** channels on Dish.

Hmm, should I be this guy or not... :eureka I've had a bad day... WTH

SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Report - 3/11/2009 12:24pm - 90 changes

Since my current setup is 110/119 and a wing at 61.5, can I simply swing 61.5 to see 129, or is it more complicated than that? Would I lose any channels that way? C.S. is useless....

If you decide to try it yourself, take a sharpie out to the dish and mark its position. There should be an elevation and a direction to mark. That way you can put it back exactly as it was if you give up on 129.

You will both have to turn the dish to point to 129 and change the elevation also. It is not really hard to do if you are patient. I usually take a receiver and a handheld TV out to the dish to watch the signal meter.

My HD channels for ABC-6, CBS-8 and FOX-59 are up and running! WTHR (NBC-13) is not in HD yet. (From where I live the OTA reception for 13 is great anyway!)

3/4 is still better than nothing. With my OTA I can now record 3 major broadcast networks at once!

I wonder when NBC-13 will be available?

I really had no idea if I had LOS or not so I marked everything with a Sharpie as suggested and got to work. I brought the handheld TV and a receiver out with me and got to work. It took some time, but after awhile (and I do mean AWHILE, thank goodness for the extra hour of daylight due to DST) I got lucky and found 129. It is nice that I wont have a recording'skipped by priority' when an HD program on a local OTA channel decides to change nights or end at a different time. Thanks for all the help.

It shouldn't take that long to do... as long as you have it on a transponder on 61.5 that is also available in the same modulation on 129. TP 22 works well for this. I've seen too many people try to find a signal on a orbital slot where the TP they were on was not active or a spotbeam at the new location.

You are correct. It shouldnt take that long, but I am an Accountant. If there isnt a calculator, spreadsheet, or some obscure tax law involved, I am way out of my league. :)

I must say that I am never disappointed when I have a question as everyone here is very knowledgeable and are always willing help out.

I wasn't meaning that literally to you... I've seen people hunt for satellites for hours... and some that do it often can eyeball it enough to get some signal.

An hour isn't bad if you haven't pointed dishes before.

Dish uplinked my local NBC-HD when they were in dispute. Then removed it, added it, removed it and finally added it and made it available. All part of the negotiation, I am sure.

I need to test for LOS to 129 on another part of the house with my 61.5 dish. Do you just run a cable from the LNB to the receiver and get to point dish?
