Battlestar Galactica -- Season 4

Frankly, it surprises me that they "get away with it" every week. For that matter I'm surprised they "got away with it" back in the seventies.
It's still a four letter word beginning with "F" and ending with "K", pronounced very similar to the real word, and has the exact same meanings and inflections.
The intent is there, the meaning is obvious, they "get away with it" on a technicality.

Well, it initially struck me as odd at the beginning of the series, and in the original series in the 70's, it was rarely used, but in this version, the "kk" variation of the word has been used in every possible context as the real word, but the real word has never been used until tonight. A "technicality" is a bit of a stretch... ;) I think they just got away with it. ;)

I liked the flashbacks. Gave us some more depth and insight to the characters...who/why they are the way they are. What drives/motivates them. What touches them. The hanger-deck scene was huge (and I'm not talking just scale either). That scene is a gut-puncher. It hits hard and it just keeps on hitting. Watching Adama stop Cottlle is a huge moment. Watching the F5 go across, Caprica...and then Roslyn, and Kara helping her stand and they lock hands. This is real life, real people, real pain and commitment.

I don't know or really care what the blogosphere pees about. This was a terrific setup episode for the ending.

I agree totally, I hit tivo and the same one that started last weeks thread started this one pi**ing and moaning... Avs was split as was the HTF forum...

Watching parts of it again...
surprised Baltar didn't cross, looks like racetrack and skulls joined also ;)

Same here...
With Caprica looking at him from the serious side of the line, I thought Baltar would go, but it fits what the flashback showed/told us about him, everything we've seen the past 4 years, and the talk he and Lee had...his staying with the gals...it fit.

Even if they got away with the technicality.... its not broadcast tv, so they wouldn't be sanctioned by the FCC the way CBS or ABC would.

Anyways... while I am waiting very much for next Friday, I am expecting to be a little disappointed; I just think they have not used their time as well as they could. The majority of the Caprica stuff seemed not essential to the story to me. I know Moore didn't want to end up with a series gasping for creative ideas like STTNG did in season 7, but this show was NOT out of creative ideas; and the same story they are telling could be told with a bit more greater depth if spread over 5 real seasons.

I know, irrelevant at this point, but in many ways think its the fans that are getting fracked by Sci-Fi's unwillingness to run full seasons, and to spread out a story with little nibbles every six or nine months.

Lots to be resolved, in less than 2 real hours of tv.

I still think the ending will create more questions than it answers. I really didn't see the story progress last night, just regress to flashbacks.

A few thoughts from the flashbacks...
1. Baltar's Dad knew him like a book and Baltar hasn't changed...
2. Caprica showed compassion again by finding Baltar's Dad a place he would like to finish out however long left he had to live(like the Mini-Series when she broke the Baby's neck)
3. Laura's life sucked before the attack also... I half expected Baltar to have been the one that ran into her Family's Car...
4. The sky view of Caprica we will see again ;) (It has happened before... :D)

Many of life's mysteries are not supposed to be definitively answered including the big ones like 'why are we here'. We (they) will never truly know who or what is pulling these often talked about strings. My guess is that the show will say it is God or the Gods and that mere mortals cannot truly know what his/their grand design is nor are they supposed to. It's not going to be some mortal entity that pops out and says 'surprise'. Considering how big a role religion plays in this show this kind of ending would not surprise me... and personally I think its the right one. It ties into the parts about Baltar questioning why God wants humanity to suffer. It wont be satisfying for those that want to be told all the answers but then life is like that. I just hope they dont do some kind of 'first ones' explanation like saying the gods were vorlons in disguise.

Since I brought it up... can anyone truly tell me me why we are all here? :D

Last night's episode gave a lot of good information on the motivations of the key human players. We see how Caprica started to play Baltar. We see how Roslin got into politics. We see Zak and Kera. We see Adama's career coming to an end.

Question, which side of the line did Baltar go to? Is he going to do the first selfless act of his life?

Again I still fear that they will run out of time before they run out of answers. They are risking a lot of answers in 2 hours.

Baltar stayed on the safe side of the line, with his harum. He'll likely be the new leader of whatever is left of humanity - gods help them.

Lee made the selfless choice, abandoning his political career...

As Don observed...imagine the repercussions had Helo not stayed behind and left Baltar on Caprica instead? So many differences...a lot of things wouldn't have happened...

I know there are some answers we won't get, but as a faithful viewer I EXPECT them to resolve the major questions that have driven the entire show. Oh, I know they will leave stuff like the head game between Baltar and Six unclear in terms of how it happened, but I expect an answer about Kara, and a resolution.

What I don't want is a stupid Soprano's ending.

How about waking up to Bobby in the shower and the whole series is a dream scenerio-DALLAS? Wouldn't that suck if the whole last few years was a dream in somebody's head and we find ourselves back where we started.

A "naked singularity"? That is a black hole without an event horizon, highly unlikely, but theoretically possible due to a rapidly spinning star collapsing. Perhaps the Cylons found a black hole and "spun it up" to remove the event horizon? That would make a pretty intense source of power, plus make the best garbage disposal in the universe!

However, it's probably a plot device to introduce time travel into the equation. "It's happened before, and it will happen again." The Final Five can go back and warn themselves about the war. Kara Thrace can discover Earth, crash, and burn, so that her earlier self can discover her remains. Adama could be his own grandfather. Lee could save Zak.

Time will tell...

Blasphemy!!! Dont even mention that idea! Star Trek did it so much that it got depressing. I think I said it already, but The Prisoner finale didnt answer a damn thing and it was still great. Based on the last shot, was it all in his head while he was driving wherever he was going? A 'Bobby' moment? :D

We will know about Kara and Hera. They set both up too heavily not to answer them. One thing I do remember, and I guess I just never explicitly caught it, but what is this 'plan' we kept seeing in the intro the first couple of seasons? Normally wouldnt be a big deal but since it kept hammering us with it I would figure we should know what it is. If it's simply to kill off humanity its not something we dont already know... so why remind us?

Oh... and "time will tell'? Do I sense a pun there?
