I have been losing 110 late afternoon EST on my dish 500, tech replaced the dp44 switch on Monday and it was fine till today when I went to a movie channel that needs 110.

Anyone else having this problem??

In southern ohio

More than likely is the LNB or new tree growth, I see a few of these every year at this time.

the tech just used the on screen stuff....he said he could tell if it was lnb going bad after the status check was done. He is going to change the duel lnb tomorrow....the only thing common to all 4 recievers is the lnb, switch and cable in between.....

Definitely the LNB. This is distinguished from trees due to the specific afternoon timing. Additionally, trees create a "waving" or "Bouncing" signal and occurs randomly due to wind.

Important to remember when trouBle shooting.

If it goes away in a week or so, then consider it may be the twice a year case where the LNB sees the Sun behind the Sat. The dates are slightly different for each Sat transmitter but are near the season changes--winter to spring and summer to fall--when the plane of your location, the Sats, and the Sun are right/wrong. They only last for part of an hour--2 degrees or so out of 360 for the day.
Just a thought,
-Ken

It all started when I put the new cards in the recievers.....been doing it off & on for a week now:rolleyes:

Was O.K. for a couple days after replacing the DPP44 switch.....then just started again last evening........this morning 4/10/09 it was O.K. again picking up both 110 & 119 at about 68-70 strength:)

Tech is supposed to be here later today to replace the LNB.....we'll see if that does anygood......it's always working when he is here:mad:

UPDATE: Well the tech replaced the LNB this afternoon...it was working when he was here and when he left....:)

Now...about 2.5 hours later, about 4:30 EST, went to change channels to a movie channel and it started searching for 110 again....

This is really getting annoying!!!! it usually is O.K. the next morning when I turn the TV on regardless if I had the reciever turned off or on when going to bed.....:confused::confused::confused: What the heck is causing this???:eek::eek: Anyone???

Oh, put the new Smart cards back in on Thursday evening when it lost 110 again....didn't make any difference....they are still in and it happens the same way....Just an FYI.

sounds like the only thing left to do is change out the cable.
this is on all receivers?
if so, then the suspect cable would be from lnb to switch.
also...happening at a certain time of day could be interferance of some type.

Effects all 4 recievers....
happens early to late afternoon then service returns next day....it's lasted as long as 3 days before going out again....

This morning 4/12, 8:30 EST it was O.K. again:D

next is grounding block in box on the outside of house....looks like a splitter or something....haven't really looked at it......still puzzles me why it happens around same time and comes back every morning:confused::confused::confused:

Normal troubleshooting would suggest something other than hardware....IMHO !sadroll

well, the splitter thing is probably a diplexer, and a flawed diplexer would not affect the whole system. i wonder if the tech replaced the power inserter when he replaced the switch. but anyway, your issue would be at the switch or before, or with the power inserter. other wise the signal loss would not affect all receivers. are you SURE he replaced the lnb's? there should be 3 duals on there and NOT an integrated lnb. and the cables should come from the dish, go to a ground block (which should of course have a green #10 ground wire to a proper source) , and then to a switch. otherwise the install is flawed.
there are frequencies that cause interferance. i would look into what is happening at that time of day. is your neighbor pulling in from work, parking near your dish (on-star has been said to cause interferance issues). is the switch mounted somewhere where it gets lots of sun (hope its not on the roof!)
i dont know, but if i were the tech, i would be embarrassed that i didnt fix it on the first 2 tries, and would probably rip the whole thing out and re-intall it at this point. if it didnt work after that...then its not going to work.

There is no power inserter that I know of....just the switch that is mounted on a floor joist in basement....:)

Answer some questions, please?

How long have you had Dish?

You have 4 receivers...what are their models?

What dish are you using?

Has there been any upgrades to your system? If yes, when and what?

Right now I would be guessing that the fittings on both ends of the 110 line be replaced and the line checked and verified that it is RG6 with no sharp bends or cuts. You could have either corrosion or a short "needle" or a hair of the braided shielding or foil touching the needle or very close to the needle.

Grounded correctly?
If there is not a separate line connected to your dish for grounding purposes, then your system isn't grounded for "function", but it may be grounded for code/safety/legality.

Aug. 07 = 20 months.

Models: 625, 522, 322, 301 Using DVR's in Single mode.

Dish 500

No upgrades other than putting in the New Smart Cards I got in the mail last week.....only the 301 had one in. Put New Cards in all 4 now.

Grounding block in box on outside of house where cables fro LNB are attached to a diplexer/splitter:what anyway seems to be grounded O.K. at that point.

The tech is coming tomorrow...I did see a kink in the wire outside and told him about that, so hope he gets that replaced tomorrow.....:bow

It is easy to believe that the diplexer or "splitter" (better be a diplexer) needs replacement, too. Check the kink, replace the ends and/or cable, and diplexer (both). Replace diplexers in pairs.

there IS a power insterer. it is plugged in behind one of your receivers. it is a black box that requires power from an ac outlet.
at any rate if the switch was replaced, the inserter should have been too, just to be thorough. like i said before, if the diplexer is bad, it wont affect all receivers. if cable is bad it will only affect all receivers if that cable is prior to the switch. hopefully the tech re-installes everything prior to the switch at least.
and the lnb's should be duals...it will still work with an integrated lnb, but it is not advised.

No Power Inseter. I checked....:D

Grounding block is what is outside in box before coming into the houe...then straight to the switch....ports 1 & 2
