receiver turns on & changes channels by itself

Yes it could be the neighbors remote. You can change the remote address of your receiver to eliminate the problem. Look in your owners manual.
On the bright side, you are probably doing the same thing to him. You should change the remote address on all your uhf remotes.
your probably still changing HIS channels.
this can cause some other problems as well.
its easy to fix.
just put the antenna back on, got to sys info (menu 6 - 1 - 3)
your uhf remote address number will be listed there. to change it press and hold sat till the top 4 buttons light up. enter a different number than the one listed in sys info (from 1-15).
press pound.
press record.
done.
if you are using a dual tuner on only one tv in single mode, you'll have to change the addy on the number 2 remote . not sure what kind of receiver you have.
anyway, you should do this so your neighbor doesnt have to pay dish to send someone out to do this simple fix for him.

His UHF remote was changing your channels, removing the antenna took away his ability to do it. Your IR remote is probably too far away to effect his reciever.
The remote isn't IR, it's the one for a 722 receiver. Tried changing the remote address and it doesn't matter what I change it to, the receiver keeps coming on by itself. Strange. Took the antenna off again and the problem is solved. Does anybody have an explaination for my problem? Will try adding something between the antenna and receiver to cut down the signal strength.
Couldn't spell it at the time. Found an adjustable one (up to 20db) I'll try next. Still wondering what would cause my problem even after I changed the remote address. Did check batteries as was suggested but that shouldn't cause problem if I'm not using the remote and receiver is turned off.
The 722 comes with two remotes, the one for tv1 is IR, the one for tv2 is UHF. If the problem stops when you remove the remote antenna from the receiver, then you are having a problem with interference from another UHF remote. When you changed the remote address, did you change it on tv1, tv2 or both?
Actually they have been sending remotes out with random addresses for quite awhile. Obviously you may still have to change your remotes address if it happens to match some neighbors.
If he is only using the IR remote (remote 1) than he can also turn off the remote 2 control by turning off shared view. Menu, 6, 2, disable view.
Try changing the band on the UHF remote as well as the remote address, this might help. Pull the battery cover off and the switch is right next to the battery compartment. You might also check to see if a timer has been set somehow. Look at the schedule and go back a few days and if one was there it will show it.
This obviously fixed your problem for the time being, but keeping it the same as your neighbor's remote is likely playing havoc with their system still.
I'm using one tv and using remote 1 only. Went into the menu and turned off shared view .
its obvious what is happening here. your number 2 remote is addressed the same as a neighbors number 2 remote. i was trying to ask earlier if you had a dual tuner and if you use it in single mode for only one tv, and i see thats the case. if you never plan to use the number 2 remote then removing the antenna will work fine. but the correct way to solve it, is to take the NUMBER TWO uhf remote, and change its address.
you may be using the number one remote, but if its a dual tuner in single mode, than the number two frequency still applies, and thats why your channels change. hope that makes sense.
