I've had it with my cable company. Trying to decide on Dish or DirectTV. I talked to a local Dish dealer today and ws told that while the 722 is a dual tuner DVR, it only records in HD on one of the tuners . Anything recorded on the other tuner would only be in standard definition. As much as I hate the equipment my cable company provides, it does record in HD on both tuners. Was I told correctly about the 722 or did the person not know what they were talking about?

I have two HD TVs and want to be able to record two programs simultaneously, both in HD on both TVs (I know this requires 2 DVRs).

People get "tuners" and "outputs" confused all the time.

The ViP722 has two satellite tuners and one ATSC (over-the-air digital) tuner. You can record HD with any of them.

The TV2 output is standard definition only, anything viewed on TV2 will be SD. If you view HD on TV2 it is downconverted to fit. Only the TV1 output has the required component and HDMI connectors for HD. They are both live simultaneously, so you can connect two different HDTVs to TV1, if you don't mind watching the same thing on both of them.

If you record a HD channel from TV2, and later watch the recording on TV1, it will be HD.

Ditto ^

the 722 can record 3 HD programs @ once, plus allow you to watch a previously recorded show while recording the other 3 :)

Actually, the "k" has a 2 OTA tuner option, so add one more recording, making 4 HD recordings at once possible :)

You don't need 2 722's for what you need. Get one 722 or 722K and one 211K. The 211K is HD and it can record one OTA and ONE sat HD if you add the EHD option to it. The thing is with the 211K you do not pay a DVR fee, just a one time activation fee. So with 1 722 you can record 3 HD, 722K 4 HD, and the 211K 2 HD. Then you can watch them on your HD tv

If you go this route...take note that you can not share programs on the EHD recorded on a 211 with the 722 or vise versa.

You can share EHD recording between two 722's

With one HD DVR, technically, you can do the recording, but not the watching. The first reply here from Pepper is correct.

You probably were wanting to watch 2 shows in HD at the same time though, so then you'd need 2 HD DVR's - like willie177 mentioned.
