After 14 months with Directv right out of the blue .. I got a call from Dish last night asking if they could tell me about new offers that they had available ...

Seems like someone or something at Dish has woken up and decided to start marketing their product again ...

After telling them to remove my name/phone number from any and all lists when I cancelled I got this call last night ... was not overly annoyed - maybe by name slipped through somewhere ...

I told them to remove my name again after the call last night - and got another call again today ...

Next time the call is being recorded, and the time after that they are being handed over to the FTC.

:)

Unless you like to watch Tv when it rains.
I have always had more problems with cable than with satellite. The cable in our place in Mammoth goes out more in the snow than Direct does when I bring it up. Even my internet and phone go out more with my current TWC at our main house than the TV goes out with Direct.

I Really Really had high hopes after D-11. I dropped all movie channels due to lack of HD feeds in the fall. Figure I might pick them back up if they add a lot in HD, otherwise I'll stick with Netflix.

Seeing my friend who just got DISH. I kind of wish I wasn't stuck in a 2 year agreement and after the 100 National HD promise that was total BS last year.. Well they won't be getting me stuck in 2 years again..

I've been a VERY VERY Happy DirecTV subscriber since 1995. Bought my first Sony System for $900.00 and installed it myself. 1 simple receiver.

Now they say wait until D-12. Sorry I bought the lies last time and I won't buy them again.

The HD Leader thing was always a fleeting Idea. At some point each will have all that is available. With Dish and DirecTV we are getting much closer to both being equal. To me the first one that stops this silly $10 charge for HD will be the real leader. HD is where it's all at now, and it really ought to just be the standard.

This is true, at some point they both will carry all of the channels. The "lead" will keep going back and forth until they get there. The Dish subs are crowing now because it's their turn. Good for them. Without the competition there would be no incentive for either company to add channels.

In 14 years of small dish use in toto land, where thunderstorms are severe and frequent, I've lost signal for more than a minute less than half a dozen times. The only time I was out of tv reception for more than 5 minutes, the satellite went out 1 minute before the electricity went out (and stayed out for 8 hours.) With a properly installed dish thunderheads need to be about 7 miles deep for a signal loss.:D

I would be willing to bet that Direct will, in the future, increase the price of that base package by $5 for everyone and eliminate the $10 charge for HD. They may still have the additional charge for the HD extra channels though.

That is just my opinion. They started doing this on other packages, such as EI.

Like someone said, what matters is the HD that I watch. But I will take it a step further and say the HD that "most people" watch. When I add up the National HD on D* and E*, I don't include the RSNs or Premiums and being a straight hetero I don't include Lifetime, LMN and Hallmark. :D I'll take my 101 and Smithsonian.
My point is I think most generic HD subs still get more HD from D* than E*.

That's right here and I am in Verizon Territory. FIOS is a very slow roll out, as only 2 suburban communities have it available in the buffalo/niagara falls ny area. Furthermore, in the rural town I live in; Verizon DSL isn't available to me either. So, basically your choices are Dish, Directv or TWC. TWC has to their credit been adding hd quite regularly too. Plus that have a very tempting triple play offer too.

When did Grand Island become a "rural town"? ;)

When Direct is gaining customers and profits right and left, why should they try extra hard to put on new HD nationals? It doesn't seem to be impacting anything negatively.

What is REALLY going to be weird is if they really do what they are indicating and are waiting until D12 ... NEXT YEAR to really add significant HD nationals, then just imagine how far ahead Dish and others will be in seven or eight months!!! They are adding HD channels quite rapidly. After the big blitz way back ... Direct is really treading water ... like for almost two years on the nationals (yeah yeah, we have had a few crumbs).

I think they thought they could wait it out conservatively, but with others rapidly catching up and passing them, they had better rethink their whole approach.

When the last bird went up, they had the opportunity to add a lot of new HD but for whatever reason they opted to add a butt-load of HD PPV channels. If they dropped just half of those PPV's and added real HD channels, we would have a real HD festivus.

I can't believe I'm the first one to say this...

E* can have as many "HD" channels as they'd like, even double the number.

If it's not full resolution and bitrate, they suck. Period. Finito. End of story.

Those of us who lived through D*'s "HD Lite" days should know this. I can't believe people are getting this hung up on some marginal HD channels (as much as I would like ESPNU-HD, I'll admit it's a niche).

Just my point Darren. I have fields, wetlands deer, turkey etc, in the back yard, so Verizon must consider us too rural to give us FIOS of DSL. Anyways, I haven't had a landline phone for 3 years now, and during the freak ice/snow storm a few years back in October, the wind blew their crappy cable right off the house.:D

Not only have they lost it, they will never regain it
Are you ever happy with D*? If not, are there perhaps other options available to you? I assume E*, but what about cable?
No offense, but I personally would not have a service that left me that unsatisfied if there were options
