Two HR22-100's I have MRV enabled on both. I keep getting error "Unable to access media.." What is causing this???

Have you got MRV to work at all? I'm not sure if you are having problems with a lost connection or are having problems getting MRV to work the first time? I had to restart my HR22's to get mine going the first time. And my BR HR22 either locks up or loses synch occasionally and needs to be restarted. I'm currently looking into a gigabit router to speed up my home network. Have you checked these threads out?

Gigabit router isn't going to help that issue any as the network connections on the receivers is only 10/100.

Thanks BrianMis for reply; I updated the firmware on my router and found some support for audio/video streams but my D-Link DIR-615 router is still a bit dated and does not prioritize data streams like the new gigabit routers do. The advise I was given yesterday suggested a newer $65 router or switch would dedicate an uninterrupted dedicated bandwidth to HD data streams for better stability. Although the max would be 100Mbps, it would be uninterrupted and dedicated as a priority. My D-link Dir-615 doesn't seem to be doing this as I cannot seem to stream HD without the frequent splats on video and audio. I get maybe 8/hour but worsens if I fast forward through commercials and it doesn't seem to help if I pause 10 or more seconds. I can't complain about the picture but seem to be also losing synch with the shared list not updating the remote HR-22's and lists start duplicating entries if I try anything other than restarting both HR-22's. Any suggestions?

Doesn't resetting the receiver(s) revert it back to the national s/w?

Restart both HR22's without entering the 0,2,4,6,8 code at blue screen will leave the CE installed. Go to Menu/Favs..setup/Setup/Reset and select restart, enter (-) with remote. I've done this numerous times without losing the CE. If you want the national s/w, you would have to press the 0,2,4,6,8 during restart outside the CE d/l window. One of my HR22's has had to be restarted several times while the other one seems to be more stable. But both have to be restarted when the list starts showing duplicate recording entries.

And the mistery continues. I am recording a baseball game right now. When I go to "list" that game is no where to be found on the list.... It is indeed recording. But, I can not access it. On either receiver....

On the DVR where the timer was initiated, try Menu/Manage Recordings/To Do List (for recording in-progress from beginning to current time in buffer access) or Menu/Manage Recordings/ History to access previously recorded shows not on your List. You should be able to access at one or the other places. I would suggest restarting both DVR's after game is over to get your list working again.

I just got the same failure right after I remotely MRV'd one recording and tried to view another. I may have tried to take a short cut by hitting LIST button without pressing done button. The LIST was correct until I tried to stop/start MRV at MISC OPTIONS. Restart both HR22's is the option that works but I'm only getting it stay up for a short period of time.

Gigabit router isn't going to help that issue any as the network connections on the receivers is only 10/100.

Gigabit network hardware actually does improve the network even when there are devices whose links operate at a lower speed. Think of the gigabit hardware as being a 10 lane freeway. Even if one lane (100 MB/sec) is filled completely with big semi-trucks, there are 9 more lanes that can operate in parallel to handle the rest of the traffic.

The same thing happens with USB 2 hubs. When you plug a low speed device into a USB 2 hub, the connection between the hub and the computer still operates at the high speed, so the low speed device doesn't bog down the entire bus.

Completely true. Most switches have an internal backbone switching network that has a substantially faster total throughput than 100Mb/s or 1Gbs, depending on the switch.

A super cheap off brand 100Mb/s switch might have a slower internal total throughput than a more sophisticated 100Mb/s switch and 3-5 full bore 100Mb/s concurrent connections might swamp it. A 1Gb/s switch might have a lot more horsepower to handle a lot of 100Mb/s connections.

Most switches also have internal packet buffers. Some cheap switches have a small amount of memory shared by all connections. Some better ones have a lot more memory or dedicate memory to each connection.

In non real time applications...you'd probably never notice any difference. When watching 2-3 concurrent HD video streams over the network (and yes...we do that here at my place with regularity) and 2-3 other network devices all fire out a big quick blast of data...you might see a glitch with a weak switch that you wouldnt see with a better one.

Considering that gigabit switches of decent construction are going for under $30, its not that big of an investment that might pay off.

Thanks guys for that confirmation; I heard similar encouragement from product help line at Frys.com but needed a confirmation before I committed. Would you suggest Linksys EG005W, EG008W or something else? Also should I put all my devices on the switch or try to isolate my HR22's with it? I'm thinking if I upgraded to gigabit switch that I should put both the HR22's on the switch instead of sharing one port. Note: at the moment, I'm not using wireless but would most likely use the D-Link DIR-615 for that if I added a notebook PC to my network. Please reply back with suggestions. Thanks!

Hey sobonefnet, did you try the restart? cfb suggested this may be occurring on a 2.5 day interval and others have posted that restarting is the only method that recovers the LIST.

MRV...Multiple Restarts to View-remotely. I'm not complaining or whining just kidding around with the acronym.

; I apologize if I offend and I'm quite sure CE team is working the LIST problem not updating correctly which may be related to occasional Unable to view content.

I think MRV is the most useful CE tool to enhance my TV viewing experience and I use it daily to watch my shows where I want. MRV in Standard Definition is great; HD could use some pic quality improvements to eliminate the glitches.

Yeah, I had that problem during the four day premier preview. Both boxes were recording like crazy but nothing was showing up in the playlist, just history. I monkeyed around with it for a while with no success, but a reboot made all the prior recordings appear and new ones were good after that.

I May have to take my acronym back

I noticed Monday night that yet another recording had disappeared from my shared LIST on the remote side which was preceded by that big red dot with horizontal line through. I was ready to restart both receivers again but noticed MRV was working and still updating the shared list so I decided to wait till morning to see if the one recording would reappear on remote LIST and it did; no restart required at this time. Later on that day, I noticed some recordings on shared list would show receiver id or user defined location name for same receiver as I scrolled down the shared list. I tried a number of things to try to get all recordings to show the proper location names and it seemed one receiver or the other would update the shared list but the other would still show a mixture of receiver id and location name and even worse than that I had more than one nick name for same receiver (BR or B/R or Receiver id). It seemed the receivers were not making much effort to communicate the changes in any reasonable time.

Looking back among the numerous things I tried I think the k/w search POKEEYELATER made MRV more stable and requiring no more restarts. I tried a more rational approach to turning MRV off/on by using the MultiRoomDVR (for OFF) under MISC. OPTIONS and then k/w search MRVCLIENTON (to turn it back on). I found the shared list updated right away with proper location names and hope that it stays synced better. One other suggestion too; if you ever go into MENU/SETUP/LOCATION/LOCATION NAME only to find that you already have it named (sometimes it seems to reset when toggling MRV off/on or changing network settings), it's best to scroll down to DON'T UPDATE and select that option.

However strange it appears, I thought I should share that. Although I can't take away my poke at MRV quirks once I post it, I am sorry for doing it.

The remote lag seems to improve if I can keep my hands off that restart button. I still get that ignored command if I navigate menu then promptly hit select. D***Net**** had that same problem in RF mode. I just can't seem to break the habit of going for the select button so quickly!

Update; new problem found. Could this be happening due to old recordings? Later on past midnight I thought my shared list was correct but in fact it has errors in some older recordings that need to be verified on the local DVR but remote DVR is showing some crazy scheme when opening folders on these older first run series recordings. Only half of total is present and some episodes appear under the next folder or item on shared list. Can't turn on B/R DVR to verify at this hour so I'm not sure if it's a case of double totals or episodes erased from HDD to make room for scheduled recordings but is strange the items in those folders skip to column below the next item or folder in list. This problem may be originating from local DVR in B/R; I'll verify that in the morning. The list appeared correct on remote DVR until I tried to open folder to view episodes; opening all folders with the yellow button showed a correct list until I got down to these older recordings.

This morning, all DVR's and DirecTv2PC all show correct LISTS including folders and subfolders. Problem seemed to correct overnight and still synced.
