Does Dish downrez HD channels?

We need to know it for answer to the question.

How about if someone could check 6 channels for a sample, like:

Fox News
TNT
CNN
HD Net
SyFi
TLC

If more then three of those channels are down-rez'ed then we know they were incorrect.

If E* HD channels aren't downrezzed, Then How come most of D* HD channels look better, and all of Fios HD channels look better?
If its not downrezzing, then its over compression, vs D* and Fios.
I've yeT seen better cable HD tv PQ, but I've seen plenty of better D* and Fios HD PQ.

So that must mean something, and can't be blaimed on receivers, because the 211, 211k 612,622,and 722, 722k PQ looks no different , I've had them all!
And I'm not a Huge D* fan, But the PQ that comes out of D* very First MPEG HD DVR HR20 is better then most I've seen with E*. Not by alot, but I notice it.
The best PQ I've seen with E* is when them Voom channels were going strong. Nothing D* had compaired to them IMHO.
YESHD was close, Thats about it.

Out of the channels you just listed, From my own eye, I would say TNT,HD Net,SYFY and TLC have been downrezzed more then they used to be. I think PQ is SLOWLY going south, My guess lack of space, Question is will it ever seem to come back?

Yes dish in my opinion does over compress their picture. Whenever I watch local HD it is over the air not on Dish. The HD picture over the are is 100% better than dish----even my on geek girl friend can tell the difference.

That would be signs of a low bitrate :)

No, not at all. Don't forget the difference between mpeg-4 and mpeg-2 encoding. I have copies of stuff that was done in mpeg-2 archived and other copies done in mpeg-4, and the file size differences are substantial, even though the smaller mpeg-4 files usually look better

Ask digi - he could quickly measure bit-rate for each channel.
Resolution could be measured for some "FTA" channels (usually LiL) by him also. Other channels will req R5000HD board.

Reason I'm asking is in a discussion with an E* user he's said that they only downrez 3 HD channels and anyone that says something else is lying, just trying to find out if he's making a truthful statement or not.

As I said earlier, not wanting to make this a E* vs. anyother service, just asking a question about E*.

Last time I checked (via slingbox) Wich was 5 min ago :) All 1080I channels minus 3 were being down rezed, Bitrates were averaging from 6 -14 Mbits on the mpeg 4 channels.

The reason why dish looks so bad vs directv, is because directv has more room on their transponders and Dish is squeezing the same amount of channels per transpoder D* does (some cases more). Thus, the amount of avaliable bandwidth is alot less. Hell I have to admit that some feeds on Directv do look almost as good as thier cband counterparts. But you still can see a diffrence between those and Cband. Fios on the other hand Is in a leauge of its own. Att could have been there with fios, but they chose to go cheap and not complete the fiber to the home with uverse.

Fios on the other hand Is in a leauge of its own. .
I agree completely! FIOS for someone who has never had a chance to see it in full force. Is like watching D* best HD channel, and Improving the PQ another step futher. Fios is the Blu Ray of the televison providers.
I wish I could have it.:( Fios is the only reason I love going to my IN-Laws.:D

He did not say, only that 3 channels are downrezzed, folks that say otherwise are misinformed.

An out and out lie. ALL HD channels on Dish are downrezzed and they have lower bitrates than Directv.

A DVB card and TSReader shows the truth. (I don't have that but others do and have posted the resolutions and bitrates.)
