Timer function disabled, TIVO lawsuit?

I truly don't understand. If you have been a customer for 10 years, what is the big deal about another 2 year extension? If you should have to cancel, the amount owed goes down each month so your liability decrease each month. They are offering a new 722 for free and $12/month. You get no sympathy from me.

Is this guy a troll?

If he is so good at writing software maybe he shoud go to work for Dish and solve all of their software problems on all of their receivers. However, I must say that I have very few problems - just a couple of annoyances with my 722k.

Oh yes, I opted for a 24 month committement for a free 722k and got $10 per month credit for 12 months for upgradeding to HD. $12 per month sounds like a real bargain to me.

From your posts, I can get a good idea of what you calls to Dish were like. If I were them, I would not offer you any sort of deal. You do not appear to be the kind of customer they want.

Why not call your cable company and shift over to them?

Obvious problem....the cable company has small cameras in their set-top-boxes that video tape you & send the signal back to the cable co. :D

I'm not trying to defend the OP but what he describes would be possible. I doubt that is his problem though. If Dish wanted to disable older units, they would do it all at once. You would wake up to find a message on your DVR to call a 1-800 number.

24-month agreement or not I would jump on a free upgrade plus a monthly discount. I had to pay $200 AND re-up for 18 months for my 722 when I went from 811's because I wasn't getting the HD programming I was paying for. CSRs wouldn't budge for me.

This reminds me of an old saying:

"Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!"

;)

They would upgrade me to a brand new 722 HD DVR dual room unit for free. I would pay no monthly leasing fee for the life of the contract. However I had to commit to a 24 month contract. I refused, and then they offered an additional $12 savings per month for the next 12 months. They would not budge on the 24 month commitment.

I'm a long time Dish customer and have been out of contract for a while now. I wonder if I could get that deal! :D

Lighten up on the OP, though. Could be a troll, but could be just an aggrevated Dish customer with a unit that stopped working. And, honestly, does anyone really believe Charlie is above such tactics that the OP listed? I agree with everyone else, it is highly doubtful and unnecessary as there is virtually nothing to gain by it, but under other circumstances it really wouldn't surprise me if Charlie pulled something like that.

I got free 772K installed friday. Been with Dish since Sept '98.

Agree to enjoy 24 more months and get about $500 worth of equipment and install labor free?

You bet!

Can't get cable, don't like Direct.

I never understand why people freak out over a commitment.
