Hey everyone! I currently have Dish Classic Bronze 100 w/Bronze HD. I'm trying to get as many Red Wing games as possible. Last year with a Free To Air receiver I was able to get nearly all Wing games. This year FTA is gone. How can I now get Red Wing hockey without having to foot the $164 Center Ice cost. I love FSN-Detroit with the Detroit announcers, particularly Micky Redman. I've called Dish to ask them to sign me up for FSN-Detroit which they will do if I change my address to one in the Detroit area. I'd do this but, I'd lose my locals here in South Dakota. I've looked at Dish Multi-sports package for $5.99/mth. Do you get all the channels/markets listed or do they just give you the package for the area you're located in? Anyone have suggestions on how to get FSN-Detroit, without losing South Dak. locals and not having to move back to that depressed area???? Thanks!

Your Options:

1. Buy Center ice
2. Find someone streaming the games online
3. Switch your address and then lose your SD locals.
4. Figure out a fix for FTA

A couple more options:

Buy the NHL video pass thing online and you can watch all of the games (unless it's your local team and they you are SOL apparently). I tested this last year when they were in free preview mode on my HTPC and the quality was ok, certainly comparable to the SD center ice broadcasts on Dish.

Listen to the game audio online.

To answer your question about the multi-sports pack...

You do get all of those regional networks, not just the one for your area, but there is a catch... Pro sports are almost always blacked out unless you actually live in that teams market area.

The multi-sport pack is good for college games, and watching the regional sports analysis/news shows.

I wish it weren't so, but the leagues make DISH do it. I guess it protects their revenue from the pay-per-view packages that they sell.

If you look at the multi sports package, you will see that most if not all of the games are blacked out. Unless you can find the games FTA, it appears that you have no option other than signing up for the hockey package.

FTA isnt gone. Stealing Dish Network and Dish doing a card swap and nuking the stealers is why :D

Yeah, I'm surprised this thread isn't done. I don't think FSN-Detroit was available with real FTA.

I guess this is proof that the swap did get thieves to sign up legit.

Hey, for those of you that didn't get hung up on the FTA issue, thanks for your thoughts! For those that did focus on FTA vice the question, get a life or a different cause. FTA is a fun hobby and if you look at the signiture of some of the responders to my question you'll see that I am not the only one who likes FTA. For the record, I've been a legitimate Dish subscriber for 12 years. Thanks again to those that shared their knowledge!

Maybe you should have read the rules when you signed up. We do not condone talk about it. But like I say, the card swap took care of the stealers so its a moot point :)

like me? :)
But unlike you my FTA never has gone down. I am enjoying lots of unencrypted channels. Hell with Dish and their compressed picture. I got to see some of Dish's channels for a day or so when they turned off the encryption and most of us FTA'ers was like "Damn that looks like crap....I'll stick with my free to air" :)

I'm looking to do the same thing (get FSN-Detroit) in Phoenix. When I looked into this 2 yrs ago (and couldn't pursue due to apartment complex factors), the best option seemed to be "moving" Detroit to get FSN-D, and getting the Phoenix locals in HD via an OTA antenna. Is this still an option? I figure at the least, I could watch the Phoenix locals in SD on a TV that's not hooked up to Dish. But I don't care about the Phoenix locals like the OP seems to care about his locals.

I don't believe that you can get FSN Detroit in AZ. The only way you can get the Wings is with a center ice subscription.

FSN-AZ and FSN-Detroit are carried on the same satellites. Once I move, that's all it should take. Neither one is spotbeamed. Or so that's my impression so far.

yep pretty much

"move" to detroit and you will get FSN-D but no locals. You'll have to get them OTA (and the guide will be off by 2 or 3 hours depending on time of year)
