Stargate Universe

This one was basically a SG1 episode with different characters...

Stargate has gone into the realm of CSI. Same stories, different settings and characters. That doesnt mean the formula is a bad one or that it will be unsuccessful. But I dont forsee anything new. Of course a better comparison is Star Trek. We shall see if this becomes the 'Voyager' (3rd series) of Stargate. I hope not.

Wait... people on a ship far from home discovering strange new worlds. Dealing with problems like limited supplies and characters that are not immediately a team. Oh geez, DS9 on a small city in space... SGA in a big city on the ocean. Starship introduced a few seasons in for expanded possibilities. Hmmm... :D

I'm giving the show a generous chance and certainly wont cut if off after only 3 shows, but considering all the new fall shows my DVR records several of them every week and SGU is down the list.

Ok, in all of the episodes of Stargate SG1/Atlantis, when did they ever refer to "faster than light" travel as FTL? Oh, Jack referred to it as a warp once or twice, but never the words FTL -- which, of course is what they called it on Galactica. Seems like a cheap gimmick to me...

They referred to it most often as hyperspace (same term used in B5), but I agree, the FTL reference does seem like a BSG "rip-off"...

I heard the term hyperspace first in Star Wars.

Yes, of course. The Millennium Falcon. :)

Just finished watching the second episode, and I have to admit, I had a hard time following it. Was not very impressed. AND this stupid communications device, I don't like at all.

I actually like the ending for this episode ...

Typically when you have a count down, they ALWAYS make it just in time ... this time ... they didn't! That was actually a little refreshing ... they found a way around it ... but at least it was different.

Yeah, but that was one helluva risk they were taking. And my gut says that Samantha Carter would never have approved. :)

O'neill did it once (when Maybourne's team of misfits was stealing friendly alien tech), when he stuck his arm into the event horizon to make sure they couldn't go elsewhere while the Asgard were beaming stuff up...I'm sure that was in his report, which I'm sure Sam read... She may not have approved of it, but then again, what other choice did they have but to try it? At least there was a precedent behind it.

How come no one mentioned the loss of the other three members of the crew? I know! Anyone in a field uniform may equal a "red shirt" now! :D

I don't remember that. I retract my statement given that there was precedent for it. But still... risky. :)

Okay this show is really getting boring in the second episode. Better pick up quick or I will be deleting this timer.

I have decided that I'll stick with it, using a twist on the old Star Trek saying "even bad trek is good trek"; so even bad Stargate is good Stargate. :)

Okay, I get that.:up But I don't want to see "Lost in Space" plots in this show. Where do we get water, where do we get fuel, where do we get the stuff we need to clean our air. It was cool when I was 6 years old but not at 47. I want to see ACTION and plots that make you THink. So far it is been very boring.
