Hmmm. Is there a DVR that sends signals to a rotor to reaim an OTA antenna? So when you DVR different channels with antennas in different directions, it tells the rotor the new aim point?

Is there any way to get the Eastern Arc Dish in Maine, to be able to pick up all my SD Channels in MPEG 4 instead of MPEG 2. Why don;t they do Eastern Arc installs yet in Maine? I live in Bar Harbor, Maine.

They don't do it because the signal strength stinks for the most part here but also Bangor DMA locals are on the Western Arc. You'd basically screw people out of having their locals.

Some installs in Southern Maine are done using the 1000.4, but every time I turned around the 1000.4 had a crap signal compared to my dual 500 setup. My SD stays up during rain and snow storms while the 1000.4 would go out. I've considered using my 1000.4 reflector for my 61.5 dish. I suspect it would be less prone to going out during bad weather if I did. I'd rather have 2 dishes and have basically no outages instead of playing into the cable company's advertisements of 'it goes out in the rain'.

I've no idea where they will put Bangor locals if/when they do them in HD. By the looks of what I've seen online, we may not see them until after Echo 14 goes up. I'd like to be wrong on that though.

Well it is 5:55 am central time and ALL transponders are now strong in the 70s range 70-78. The transfer is complete and we are now using the new sat nimiq 5 for ALL of our programming! Take that Western arc! Can't wait to test it in the next big rain. Now what happens to the older echostar sat up there? Will they move it to help out 61.5 sat? I know they are having some problems with their transponders.

That is the question. Nothing on file with the FCC yet. My theory is they are reevaluating remaining fuel before they move anything after what happened with E5.

The FCC isn't going to Echostar get 148 without a bird there indefinitely.

I think they will provided no one else wants it as a DBS slot. So who else might want it (and has money to put a sat there)?

I do not think there will be any market for the 148 slot. It would be too low for most of the US population. There just is not enough out west to support spending a billion dollars to launch a service. 61.5 was tough on elevation for the NW. This would be the same for the heavily populated NE.

It also takes the same amount of fuel to go to any slot. Just takes longer to go farther.

My guess of what is going to happen is as DirecTV vacates a number of TPs at 72.5 W, Dish will get use of them but DirecTV is not going to vacate them all by Janyuary 1, 2010 so there will be a phase in of usage. I would expect Dish to have use of 20 - 24 TPs on January 1, 2010 and probable as many as 28 by mid 2010. Dish may have use of all 32 TPs by the beginning of 2011 but it might be until mid 2011.

The movement of E-6 is still unknown which is puzzling. In regards to 148 W, Dish could build a satellite with just spotbeams to Alaska and Hawaii. This should be a cheaper satellite because of the need for limited coverage area. It also may not need as much power becuase it will only have two spotbeams but if it could provide greater power than could allow for the use of smaller dishes for customers in those states.

Yes, but I don't think the FCC will take away 148 unless someone else wants it. DirecTV serves Hawaii from their current slots. So even if Dish wanted to do that, they don't need to move E6 there to cover.

The above comment is logical, but if a satellite is to be put up at 148 it would probably be shortsighted to only have a couple of spotbeams. While service to the mainland would be limited from that location, service to the west coast and the northwest (including states such as Idaho and Montana) would appear to be perfectly adequate from 148, as a supplement to what's provided from 129. In addition, a fully capable and properly designed satellite could also be used for commercial/governmental communications, and for limited broadcasts to sites in the far east (maybe Japan, India, China, etc.). These additional usages would have to be worked out with the government in advance, I would guess.:

I think it will be sooner. Directv 12 goes up in December and will be taking over spot beam service for the defective Directv 10. This eliminates the capacity bottleneck that required the use of the 72W slot.

I would think that w. the new D* sat up in Dec and the FCC giving consent to E* to use the tps at 72.5(.7) then it will happen by the 1st of 2010. If D* isn't off the 72.5 sat by then they would be in violation of this new document for changing who has the rights to transmit from that location.

Dish applying for and receiving approval from the FCC to use all 32 TPs is only as good as they have a lease agreement with Bell TV/Telesat. This does not prevent DirecTV from utilizing the TPs for which they have a lease agreement with Bell TV/Telesat. The Dish application only requests FCC approval for when their lease agreement with Bell TV/Telesat allows them to use all 32 TPs which I believe is related to when DirecTV gives up there lease. I am speculating that DirecTV will probable not due this all at once but will phase in.

In regards to the DirecTV-12 launch, even if it goes in December of 2009, it will be a few months before it is operational based on the time it took to test DirecTV-11. DirecTV-12 also has a "reverse DBS" capability which I am sure will be tested as well which may increase this testing time. In addition, for the customers in the markets at 72.5 W that will be moved to DirecTV-12, they need to have their equipment, both dishes and receivers upgraded which also adds to the time.
