I know this topic has been debated to no end and it has probably been grounded down to thin dirt. I tried to do a search for my one specific question and I just couldnt come up with an answer.

My question is simple: I currently have just ONE 722. Just only ONE dvr 722. It is in the living room and the tv2 runs into bedroom. Tech installer said I need to have phone line connected.

This true? I am not in the forseeable future planning to add any more receivers. Just going to stay with 722 for a good while.

If I take the phone line out, will I be charged the $5 dollars? Seems pretty stupid considering I NEVER do PPV on this gosh forsaken PPV channels.

I currently have only the classic bronze with the HD. Nothing fancy at all.

TIA!!

I have the non-hd locals and the HD locals to clarify. The non-hd locals are in yellow color and the HD locals are..well..in the guide. Still will be charged?

The reason the tech said it had to be hooked up is because corporate is DEMANDING that techs connect ALL receivers to either a phone line or internet if available. Techs are being written up and threatened with termination over this issue.

Ahh I see...I went and double checked. Much to my chargrin..I actually have 3 locals...I have the dish regular locals...have the dish HD locals...and I have the antennae locals (which I believe looks a LOT like HD)...so ...is it safe for me to pull the plug and have no fear for the $5 or whatever charge?

DISH charges for each additional TV for $5(SD) or $7(HD) per month. However you have the chance to save the 2nd and 4th TV charges. If you order a dual tuner receiver for two rooms, please connect your receiver to your phone line. Dish Network will waive your second room charges. If you do not connect the receiver to the phone line, you will be charged $5 per month. To save $5 per month, please connect the phone line. Why? Because Dish Network wants to sell more “Pay Per View” programs. The PPV orders go through phone line. If you do not connect your phone line, they can never get any PPV orders from your remote controls. They waive your $5 monthly charge to treat your phone line connection. You cannot save the additional receiver fee. For example: You order a 722 and a 222 receiver for 4 TVs. If you connect your phone line to both receivers, you can save $5 for the 2nd TV and $5 for the 4th TV. However you still have to pay $7 per month for the second receiver fee (3rd TV). Slick, short answer, as I understand it, is YES, you will be charged $5/mo. if phone line is not connected.

Typical Chuckles, treating the employees like dung.

You obviously have the internet so just connect it to the 722 with a home plug adapter and save yourself $5 every month. Just check amazon for the best deal, around $25 or so. Real easy to install. Been discussed here quite a bit and it works. No phone line required.

This is a great idea especially for VOD. Every 722 customer should connect to their braodband so that they can enjoy all features offered by this box.

But to answer your question about the additional charge..................

NO !!!! Dish does not require a phone connection to the first DVR any more.
A phone line is required on all 2nd recievers or 1st dual tuner non DVR's to avoid additional outlet charges.

The TV2 Connection fee is there for all dual recievers. It is basically the charge for the second TV tuner on the reciever. It is always $5. The $7 charge mentioned earlier was for a second HD reciever only. There is not any difference on TV2 Connection fee for HD or SD.

The only way to remove the TV2 connection fee is if while you are doing an upgrade you sign up for the Dish Digital Advantage which is part of the 2yr commitment, if you put an active phone line into the receiver or an active internet connection.

Dish is just greedy

They want it hooked up to the phone or internet so they know where the receiver is more than any ppv stuff. They don't want ppl stacking up accounts. DISH is like "the man" or "big brother", do not let them fool you, it's all about their greed.

Freshmen!

Bob the internet connection doesn't use Dishcom, only phoneline can be shared between other receivers.

Dish gets 3 benefits from a connection:

1. Makes it easier to order PPV

2. They can sell your viewing patterns

3. Makes it harder to share your account.

They changed their policy to allow 1 receiver not to be hooked up. They used to charge if any were not hooked up.

I am planning on dropping my land line...........

planned on plugging one into ethernet, and have the other use dishcomm to talk to the ethernet one.

can they both phone home that way?

you either need a homeplug adapte to share broadband connectionr or each receiver will need to be connected individually to your router.
