Hey guys... I have a 'summer cottage' that I want someone to install a Slimline 3, run the cables, etc. I don't want to have to deal with telling DirecTV that I'm moving, and messing with them everytime I travel for a weekend trip. I simply want to bring my own receiver with me, depending on which house I am in.

What's the best way to have someone come install this for me? Obviously it can't be on the record with DirecTV. What is an appropriate cost to pay someone to do this? I'm looking just for the Slimline 3 install, and a double coax + ground run to one jack. I already have the dish and mounting equipment. Thanks!

Good question. Maybe a better question is "what is it worth to YOU". If you have absolutely no skills for it, then it is worth more to have it done right. My best guess, $100.

I point the dish myself normally, on a tripod mount. Trees are getting bigger and its harder to get a signal from the ground in my back yard. Thanks for the tip.

So where are you wanting it put ?

Your in Cincy and I'm in Toledo.
4 hour drive.
Make it worth my while ....

I am in Canton, may be able to help if all else fails.

BTW, I am guessing this isn't anytime soon given that I just was outside having a smoke and noticed a "summer cottage" would not be in season right now, LOL.

outside having a smoke lol?? im having a smoke rite now... sitting warmly in my bedroom in front of my computer *puff puff*

may I remind you that paying someone to mount a satellite dish for me breaks no laws, agreements, terms of service, etc...

Except he will be doing it knowing "I don't want to have to deal with telling DirecTV that I'm moving, and messing with them everytime I travel for a weekend trip"

I would warn techs not to do things like this especially through a public forum where it can be easily documented.

Danger!! Will Robinson Danger!!

if I was installing a system at my home, I'd recommend:
do it yourself. it's not that hard. the starting elevation/azimuth/tilt from the internet will get you close. first lock in the 101 satellite, then fine tune with the 119.

heck, I used a walkie-talkie and fine tuned the dish with some help from someone watching the signal display inside the house. otherwise, you can purchase a satellite meter for about $100. Coax is cheap so are grounding blocks and compression connectors. easy.

i can and have pointed the thing myself, that's not the hard part. Its the whole climbing up on the roof and mounting it so it can see above the tree line that I don't want to do...if nothing more than the fact that I don't have a ladder that will reach my roof...

...The service industry exists for a reason. I can change my own oil, but I choose to have someone do it for me because its a better value to me.

this is so true so go and call directv tv and tell them to do it for you free, I know you don't want to call them (maybe is not your account) but they also are part of the service industry, (you never know maybe they change your oil too) just my two cents :D
