I've been with D* for 6+ years. I own my receivers.

Lately, my wife has been asking for a DVR to replace the HD box (H20-600) we have.

I am sure I know the answer to this, but I've been away from the boards for awhile, so I will ask...

If I replace my owned H20-600 with a HR2* DVR, will the dreaded, 2-year commitment be invoked? I've enjoyed D* but with the shaky economy here in the Detroit area, I can't be put into a commitment situation.

So folks...will I be put under the 2-year lockdown or has this gone away? Or, will speaking with a D* CSR offer me a chance for them to waive the commitment?

Bottom line yes as it is a upgrade that is 2 years

Only time there will not be a comitment is when we replace a own unit do to a Protection plan ERP (aka fancy name for pro plan replacment )

New hardware = 2 years no ifs ands or buts

it is 2 years even if you pay 670 for the hddvr

Thank you sir. That was a fast answer. I've got the protection plan, but even if my H20-600 went out, I know it could only be replaced with the same type (No DVR).

I appreciate the answer. Unfortunately, that pretty much leaves me staying status quo (and convincing the wife of such) or moving providers (which is a pain even though we have a ton to choose from - WOW!/Comcast/Dish/U-Verse).

You could always look for a owned HDDVR I found 2 on craiglists 150 and 160 bucks + 20 for new card.
NOTE you must call access card team to find out if the reciever is owned or leased
via the RID#
owned=no commitment

Why do you think it's owned=no commitment ?

It's an upgrade from a HD receiver to an HD DVR no matter how you obtain it.

Everything I read on this board and others are that HR are all leased and owned doesn't exist. If I could find an HR-22 that would be mine I am there. I want a much larger internal HD.

You can add an eSATA hard drive if you want.
Why do you have to have a larger INTERNAL drive ?

There are owned HR's out there. They are sold to commercial accounts. You have to be very careful buying them on ebay or craigslist. Like This1 said, you have to get the RID from the sell and verify it's status with the access card department. The majority are leased that can't be sold, and you will never get it activated.....

I don't think so. The committment comes in to play if you lease the receiver. I was under the impression you could buy (not lease) an HR21PRO and activate it with no commitment...

I do have 2 owned HDDVR hr21-100 receivers what I did was called access card team confirmed it was owned and could be put on my account when I received the receiver I call DTV activated via the access card team they sent my a new card 20.00 and when I activated it I confirmed they put as owned which only the access card team can do
Call back 2 days later double checked status of owned and my commitment did not re-start

No anyone can tell you if there own or not

ACDT only there for ordering cards and disputing a box is leased or own but any agent can tell you what it is set as.
