SES World Skies has announced that beginning with the launch of the AMC4/2 replacement in April, 2010, the satellite names will reflect the SES branding.

Press Release

Get your remote control out, replace the batteries, stretch out your fingers, drink plenty of water to help prevent cramping and get ready to start reprogramming the satellite names!

It's much less confusing to me to just refer to the sat positions, i.e. 72w, 74w, 97w, 101w, etc.....that way I don't have to remember the names of all the sats.

not that hard to do

It's not that hard to do really. I prefer to have actual names for the satellites than by position coordinates (72, 89, 121, and so on). Whenever I reset my receiver and unless I had saved the channels and satellite lists, it reverts back to the original programmed satellites - many of them old names or old coordinates.

eh I still have old names in my receivers.

The Pansat 1500 still shows SBS6, G10, T6, T5 etc :)

SBS6 & G10 I'll get around to changing in the other receivers....one of these days ;)

There we go again. Another flood of phone calls from customers asking about what satellite name they should use in the receiver?

Position vs Name

Enough! My next satellite receiver had better arrange satellites according to position rather than name -- otherwise I will be singularly disgruntled.

Totally. I can never remember the names and then they are always renaming them too.

:)

Agree with you there. Maybe we can get one of these fine men at SatelliteGuys to do a list of name changes that has the old satellite name(s) and the new ones once they rename them.

I like to keep a minimal channel list (with channels from one transponder on one satellite) saved on my PC, with all current satellites, names, and settings. Whenever I do a factory reset, I reload this empty list and rescan. Keeps everything fresh :) ... Looks like I'll be updating my minimal channel list again soon...

It's more confusing when your dish mover is a 4DTV. You have to deal with old name, new name, sat position and 4DTV name. If you are not a drinker this will make you one.:censored:

This has been posted numerous times. It's slightly out of date and in need of yet another update, and has a few errors, but it's still useful.

EDIT: Just added a 2010 column. Still probably some errors.

EDIT2: One thing the above link doesn't do is differentiate between name changes and actual changes in the sats. Not sure how to impliment that.
