I have a Dish Network dish pointed at 119 and 110.
Can I use this dish to receive Direct TV. I am not interested
in the locals since I have a very basic cable service I use for the locals.

NO is the first answer, you need to be aimed at 101 for Directvs basic programming. The DISH Network dish 500 probably has Dish Pro Twin or Dish Pro Plus Twin LNB which is not compatible with Directv. If you want HDTV from Directv you need 103 and 99 satellites which are Ka band not supported by the DISH Network dish.

Second answer YES but only if it is a Basic Directv receiver and a LEGACY single or dual DISH Network LNB with the dish reaimed for 101.

Thanks Boba

I'm not looking to get HDTV just the basic. Don't know why but I thought Direct TV came from 119 and 110.

DirecTV will provide you with the appropriate dish at no cost as a part of a basic instalization. Why would you want to batch up some juryrigged substitute?

If D* has locals in your market & you are a new sub, you CANNOT opt-out of them any longer, & you're only saving $3 anyway. Also, some SD locals are NOT on 101; some are on 119 & some are in Ka only, which requires a slimline. ('course since you don't tell us WHERE you're at, we can't help you on that one  )
Also, you ARE aware that D* will NOT activate used equipment for new subs; you must get at least one new leased receiver to sign up. It might help us, help you, if you told us exactly what you're trying to accomplish here - have you done ANY pricing yet on "basic" D* service? (whatever you consider "basic"... ) Also, you DO understand that as a new sub, you WILL be put on a 2 year contract, regardless of what you activate in regards to equipment, prog, etc...

+1 :up

As far as the locals none of the local tv stations have the ability to feed Direct TV.
