Has anyone been able to downgrade a 622 or 722 receiver to a 612 WITHOUT paying or a signing up for 2 year commitment?

I'm looking at swapping out my 2nd 622 to save some money.

(I am assuming I will still be able to record 2 sat channels and/or 1 OTA channel at the same time. If I can't please tell me.)

(I am also assuming I can use my existing EHD's with this new 612. If that won't work, I need to know.)

Excellent question. I have a 722 for my main receiver and a 622 for my second receiver. I never use the dual mode, I might want to trade the 622 for a 612 as well.

Yes to everything save for the two-year commitment. Having said that, I didn't sign anything- electronic or otherwise- and if Dish were to raise fees too much, eliminate certain programming, fail to deliver a satisfactory product, or another alternative emerged causing me to jump ship, I would simply let my credit card company intervene if Dish attempted to charge me anything associated with their ridiculous "commitment terms".

interested in this topic also. I currently have a 622 in living room and 612 in bedroom. Only two TVs running in the house. Would I save money replacing the 622 with a 612? Or since it's my primary receiver, does it not matter?

If you look at all the problem threads the 622 and 722 have more complaints.
I have both a 722 and two 612's. One of the 612's has given us no trouble whatsoever. The other one (which we use a lot more) has had no worse troubles than our 722. This is not a scientific study, but it's my own real, 1st hand experience.

I'm interested in doing this as well. I currently have a 722 and a 622, with AEP. I'd like to swap the 622 for a 612 and drop to AT200 w/HD and 4 premiums. According to the calculator, this would save me $0.99, as opposed to a $13.01 increase (after "loyalty credits" run out in six mo) if I stay with what I have.

Anybody know if this will trigger another commitment? I'm not in one now, although I might go for a 922 later this year, IF they are relatively trouble-free. It would be nice if they had a "Dishin' it Down" program! ;)

Yep. Although it is debatable as to how successful they might be in enforcing.

I just did this

I just moved and switch from having two vip 722 and a 510 to one 722 and two 612 getting rid of the 510 altogether. I have 3 hdtv's and moved into a three story house so it was easier to get two 612 instead of trying to run cable upstiars. I have the 722 in the basement family room to a hdtv and the second tuner to my sling box. One 612 is in the livingroom (hdtv)and the other is in the upstairs bedroom (hdtv). One of the 612 has been ok the other one nothing but trouble. It's getting replaced tomorrow. I had to do the two year deal and it seems my bill went up $3. The 612 are ok. If you don't need to switch I wouldn't. I don't like the fact that you can't swap or do pip. Yes you can hit the last channel button but it takes the receiver about 3-5 seconds to switch and when you go back to that channel you can't skip back to see what you missed. Yes you can record that channel so when you switch back to it your can rewind but it's a pain. I just didn't want to deal with a bunch of cables so I switched, I was in a single story house, otherwise I would of kept what I had.

Well, I called in about swapping my 2nd 622 for a 612 to reduce the receiver cost from $17/month to $10/month. They said I would have to pay $100 and sign up for a 2 year commitment. I complained a little (I knew he could do nothing) and he said
"But you are receiving a $5.00 credit for 6 months, sir." Whoop-de-doo! Been with DISH 14 years....

So, it looks like I will also be writing our CEO friends.....
