OH
My neighbor broke my slimeline 5lnb dish by accident and bought me a new one with swm. I have installed it but I can't get a signal. My question is does the swm work with the hr20 reciever and if so is there a trick to getting the dish to pick up the signal or do I need the 5lnb with the two cables for it to work?
Also if it does work with the hr20 will they come out and reline the dish so I can get a signal even if they didn't install the dish? I've been told that there are a couple of different tricks to getting a signal with the slimline 5lnb dishs and without knowing them you won't be able to do it yourself. Is this true?
Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks

You need more than the SWM dish. There is a power inserter and splitter that must be installed. If you have the protection plan, any realignment should be free. Otherwise you will have to pay to have it done. You didn't say what broke on the dish. Was it just the lnb or just the dish? It sounds like the lnb. Did he get a new lnb and a new dish for you?

I have installed the power inserter and splitter that came with the dish. I don't have the protection plan and the dish and lnb were crushed and he bought both a new dish and lnb. The dish, lnb, splitter and power inserter were all in the box together with the instructions on how to hook it up, but not getting a signal I was just wanting to know if this would still work on my hr20 receiver before I went any further.
Thanks

Yes works fine with the HR20.
I have (4) HR20's and (2) H20's all connected to a SWM5 + 1x8 switch working great.
Make sure that you do a reboot on the HR20 to detect the SWM LNB (press the red button by next to the access card).

Ok Thanks. Now all I have to do is find a signal. I guess I'll have to call and get someone out here to find it. Does anyone have a general idea how much someone would charge to do it or let me know if there is something I'm missing or not doing right? I have the dish set to the coordinates for where I'm located, but there has got to be something I'm missing.

Well even if the dish is 1/4" off the signal will not come in. Most likely that is your case here. You can always check your local craigslist for installers.

I don't have any personal experience with this, but have seen in other posts that Directv charges $49 for a service call to have a tech come out and align a dish. You can easily call them and ask.

Sorry, I didn't realize I didn't even answer your question about the HR20! Anyway, Bob is right, call Directv and set up an appointment.

why not just look at the dish to see what its set at? the receiver should tell you where to point it. also make sure the settings are correct in the dish pointing settings on the receiver. (not sure if it auto adjusts itself)

Also, the SWM cable connects to the SAT 1 input and BBCs aren't needed. And don't forget to set the satellite dish type in the sat setup menu.
