New Things on Sky Angel

Hmm. . . have I not been payin’ attention, or are there some new things on Sky Angel service?

1. Inspirational Country Radio, channel 206: I haven’t decided whether I like this station for my own listening, but what I do like is that it is not like any other Sky Angel radio station, so it offers a new choice.

2. Favorite channels setup under “Other Info” from the main menu screen: This applies only to faith TV channels, but you can now add or delete channels from “favorites.” Nice!

Added vs Lost

Added: Sky Angel's set-top box (Neulion) now carries the closed caption text that allows TV Guardian to filter out swearing and other bad speech. This also helps the deaf, who may miss some audio content. This change was my top priority for Sky Angel when I signed up - thanks guys!

Lost: Discovery Channel pulled their content, so 5 channels my family loved to watch are no longer carried, and now 2 months later, no suitable replacements have been provided or announced. In their FCC complaint, Sky Angel claimed this could ruin their business, and I believe it. The only good movie channels (IMO) on Sky Angel are Hallmark and GMC.

One correction, this function works for ALL channels. This is a great feature, Now I can remove all of the "WOF" (TBN, GEB etc...) as well as shopping channels from my lineup.

Oh. . . sorry, I didn't connect that I don't have the family channels, so they didn't display when I was setting favorites.

Sky Angel software now allows the option to turn the screensaver on or off. That is an important update for me since prior to the addition of the screensaver, I was able to use Tivo to automatically change channels all day long so I didn't have to remember to do it myself (which often resulted in me missing all of a program, or at least the beginning). This automatic channel-change was not possible on radio channels with the screensaver on.
