Dish HD vs Disney (DISH sort of won...)

i had sd of espn news for 3 days and now nothing.... with nephews and nieces here this week (making for 6 kids in the house) i hope the weather tays nice so they can stay outside

I wondered why Disney channel went back to SD. Imagination movers in SD format really sucks. Kids even noticed. Wife was pissed. Dish Network company really sucks.

DISNEY is the company that pulled the HD feeds , NOT DISH. IF you want to be mad at someone direct it towards old Mickey Mouse himself.

With 7 year old in the house they need to fix this crap. Comcast finally got their signal to me fixed last week. If it wasn't for HDNet and all the external HDs I have filled with HD movies of films not out in BD yet, I would be calling Comcast up right now, they are so eager for customers, I got HSI installed on Easter morning. And they stream TV to your computers, so its just like Sling.

I'm a fairly new subscriber to Dish and admittedly don't watch much in SD...however the channels that I have watched look decidedly better in SD than with Time Warner Cable. In fact, most of the SD is really darn good. Very clear, vivid and almost "semi-HD-like" for lack of a better term. Perhaps it's just that SD on TWC was so bad. But anyway, I don't cringe anymore like I used to do when I want to watch something that is not in HD. Admittedly, I still prefer the HD! ;)

By the way, speaking from the perspective of watching this on a 55" Samsung LED-LCD (so definitely not a small screen).

Same here. I have a 40" Sammy LCD and I would say 90% of the SD on Dish is very good. When I had Insight cable, SD was crappy. I fined with Dish, that only certain stations seem to always have low quality SD.

theory=fail!
When you agreed to receive Dish programming, you also agreed that they could change, drop, add programming at their discretion.
Now, you might get a credit ($2-$5) off your bill, but they didn't breech anything.

"I. Changes in Services Offered. We may add, delete, rearrange and/or change any and all programming, programming packages and other Services that we offer, as well as the prices and fees related to such programming, programming packages and Services, at any time, including without limitation, during any term commitment period to which you have agreed. If a change affects you, we will notify you of such change and its effective date. In the event that we delete, rearrange or change any programming, programming packages or other Services, we have no obligation to replace or supplement such programming, programming packages or other Services. You are not entitled to any refund because of a deletion, rearrangement or change of any programming, programming packages or other Services."

Has anybody been notified of Dish's programming change *by Dish*? I never received any sort of notice from them. There's nothing on their home page under "Dish News." This didn't even make Dish's own Investor News feed. It seems to me that Dish failed to meet its obligation to notify us.

It certainly doesn't help Dish's case in terms of customer perception....

Dish Network has been carrying these four HD channels without a contract for 25 months, and Disney has yet to be paid.

Looks like I'm becoming a Dish Network customer soon. If Dish Network can carry 25 months of programming without payment, then I can become a 25 month customer with Dish Network, but of course I won't pay, either!

When Dish shuts down a channel such as these, they leave a slate up telling you that the channel is no longer available. That's your notification. They are following their contract very well....

I was not notified. Also this says Dish can do what they want. Disney removed the channels. Dish didn't plan on this.

I didn't get any notification either. The channels just disappeared from my guide list.

I was on TurboHD Broze and now in Dish America with locals and I lost Disney HD. No SD for me. That's all my kids watch on TV. I hate the company. I understand pulling HD due to contract negotiations, but SD too?? Lame...

It is still bad PR for Dish dragging this out so long. Makes me think of alternatives. Even though I do not watch these channels on a regular basis, it just shows that on Dish any channel could go at any time for any length of time Dish decides they are not getting the deal they want. They next channel block could be one that I watch all the time.

I agree. And I am surprised it has taken so long for this to play out. And even more surprised that it is not resolved yet.

Even more annoying, some of the HD channels on Dish Network may not be under contract, or some of the HD channels not on Dish Network could be subject to a lawsuit.

The issue at hand is that Dish Network tried to bully Disney by forcing Disney to give Dish Network Disney HD, Disney XD HD, ESPNews HD and ABC Family HD. Dish Network aggressively took Disney to court to attempt the free carriage route, and it failed so miserably that Dish Network owes Disney $65 million in interest payments, owes 25 months of back fees for carriage of those four HD channels, and no longer has those channels available.

And somehow Dish Network thinks they'll be able to bully Disney into a lower price because of their HD for Life promotion? This simply appears to be a stalemate, while channels such as ESPNU HD cannot possibly be carried until the current mess is resolved.
