Can "Thanks for being an E* subscriber" charge be avoided?

you can not setup a service call for uninstall if you have the home protection plan. i just tried to do that, read this -

Here is what I would do. Note that I have never attempted this, however, from my viewpoint as an installer, I don't see how it could hurt.

I would simply call in and setup a service call, say you need a receiver moved or something. So long as you have DHPP, it'll cost ya $15. When the tech gets there, let him know whats going on. Get on the phone with a CSR and then cancel the account and ask the tech to return the equipment to his warehouse. He'll have an easy job (way easier taking a system out then putting it in).

Basically an order of operations. If you call and tell them you want to cancel THEN try to setup a service call, you're going to get dinged. If you setup a service call and then cancel you should be ok. Again, YMMV as I've never attempted such a thing.
 
haysoos, this is what will happen if you have the custy do that. they will call up, cancel services, but first cancel your service call. then they dont even have to pay the 15.00 bucks, and you dont get paid either. unless you are an hourly employee, then your fine.
 
Service was shut off on the 14. We are still waiting for the boxes. How long does it take for them to arrive?

Today, it's over 100° and I jumped into the pool before I took off the dish, switch, diplexers, cable and recivers. Some water may have "accedently" entered the recievers when I unpluged them, as I was not completely dry. HA HA HA. When the boxes arrive, I am going to send back everything they want. I plan to use the dish for target practice. I cut all the cable into pieces and will stuff as much as I can into the boxes. I might keep the dp34 switch and put it on ebay.

I am not stupid either. I unpluged the reciever before the drop of water entered the reciever. How can they tell when water entered the reciever? It was working when I unpluged it. Besides the water drop has dried by now and it has not been pluged in. How do they know it wasn't damaged during shipping, if it has to be shipped, or damaged in there warehouse while it is waiting to be processed. It might work when they get it. It's a 522 and about 4 yrs. old. Electronic equipment can fail at anytime for any reason. Besides, E* was discontinued for financial reasons not for equipment problems or failures.

You're not hurting the company, you're hurting another customer (who presumably will get a receiver where they may or may not be water damage that couldn't be spotted 'assuming it's not') Imagine some 85 year old customer who just got a replacement receiver for a legitimate reason gets your passive aggressive attempt at payback and it did cause damage that was undetectable through testing. This 85 year old lady spends the next 3 months wondering why the new receiver doesn't work and ends up in tears because she has to get up and down resetting the receiver with an arthritic hip.

What a dick move man. I hope you don't have children, the world doesn't need more of you.

Think about it, would you want your 1 to 2 year old computer that crashed replaced with a four year old computer? So it would be a dick move made by Dish not me. And Dish has two more dick moves. The first is by charging $15 per reciever to return them. Some people cancel their sub because of financial problems, and Dish makes it worse taking more money from people that are already financally strapped. The second is having to return the lnb. Lets take the 85 yr. old lady you mentioned. If she cancels her sub. she would have to find someone to climb on the roof to remove the lnb. After all, you wouldn't want the 85 yr old lady with an arthritic hip climbing onto the roof to remove the lnb would you? She might get a family member to do it for free. She might have to hire someone to do it. She could have Dish do a deinstall but she would be charged for it.

As for kids, I have two. They are very smart for a 3 and 5 yr olds. I hope my 5 year old son becomes a auto mechanic just like me, so when your car breaks down you have to take it to him. However I doubt you can afford a Cadillac, which is where I work at and hope he does some day.

As for your location "at the bottom of everything" I guess that includes the barrel and life.

Good thought Claude except all UPS shipments are prepaid, they don't send anything freight collect. You could send it COD (collect on delivery) but Dish would just refuse the package, then it's right back where you started from.......

You can do it freight collect, when you send something UPS just check the box that says "Bill Sender" and they will bill the sender.

Believe me I know you can do that because I have customers try to do this to me all the time when processing returns on the Dishstore. When you get the package, you have to look very carefully at the label, because if you don't catch it surprise, surprise you get a bill in the mail a week or so later after its delivered.

As far as shipping charges and having to pay $30 to send back 2 boxes...

Get 1 Big box to send everything back in 1 big box and pay $15 once. The charge is $15 per label, it does not specify up to a specific weight limit.

The joke is on Dish at that point because likely Dish will incure an oversize charge on the return which is more than the maximum of $15 per label they will charge you.

Dish, I don't agree with this one.

Absolutely agree with you. Also, LNBF's should not be required to be returned. Perhaps someone who gets hurt doing this can successfully sue Dish, and the practice would be stopped immediately.

Great idea, I do this all the time with stuff my wife needs returned from QVC. They provide COD return labels, the charge is typically more than the original shipping. I will either stuff as much stuff into the smallest "if it fits, it ships for one low price box" I can use and pay for it my self, or put al the items in to a box and use one of the cod labels, so far it has worked like a charm.....

As I understand it folks are told if they cannot access the LNB a tech will be dispatched to get it. No need for a sub to climb anyhting to get the LNB. I have only seen one dish without an LNB on it, that appears to be not in use (no cables running from it), so it it appears that they don't often send techs out, to do this, at least not around here.

She'd have the foresight to say "I'm 85, I can't do that" and the agent would waive the LNB code (which happens on most accounts anyway).

As for you being charged to return the receivers, you got a bulk rate. You could've sent them back with your own labels which would have been more expensive, the choice is yours.

Also, terrific value judgment of my character and abilities as I'm the one getting upset at a corporation and acting in a passive aggressive manner.;)
