Title of this thread indicates that I'm asking for advice, but it isn't just that. I'm going to vent.

I'm getting tired of seeing DirecTV's competitor, Dish Network, be the one that brings in high-definition feeds of national cable channels that I believe should also be carried by DirecTV. (On a priority issue, I don't believe 3-D is the rage. If I ran DirecTV, I'd know damned well it's HD that should be top priority in what the company should pursue in content.)

One week shy of the fourth season-premiere of the Emmy-winning Mad Men, both DirecTV and Dish Network have yet to bring in AMC HD. (Very dumb!)

But at the rate Dish Network is going, they're really outpacing DirecTV in a more up-to-date channel lineup of HD.

Speaking with a relative — who resides in another state and in whom I referred as a new customer (in 2005; I've been loyal since 1998) — I told her, pretty much along these lines: "DirecTV has to always keep up with competition. Business reasons. Expect them to be bringing in a more comparable HD lineup. The companies, after all, go in spurts where one company is ahead of the other. DirecTV is behind now. But DirecTV will catch up, because they'll have to do so." For the record: She wants Turner Classic Movies in HD; I want — to be frank, here — a comprehensive lineup (as much as what's actually available from national cable programmers. Hey, DirecTV never shies from tauting they're … leaders!).

Right now, my stance is to stay with DirecTV. (I'm subscribed to MLB Extra Innings but will let it lapse after the conclusion of the 2010 season.) But I do wonder: One year from now, will this situation continue with DirecTV? (If it does, it may serve me better to "move on".)

I'd suspect that directv will do better than dish and copper based cable for at least a little while. I dont read up on them daily, but I dont think that dish has any major HD offerings coming up in the near future and the copper based cable guys are just running out of bandwidth.

Directv on the other hand just put up a new satellite and then used it to fix an older one. They should have room to add at least another bucket or two.

Now hopefully they'll be real channels and not more pay per views or horsepuckey that doesnt do anything for the average subscriber.

Didn't E* just drop Disney XD DH, ABC Family HD, ESPNU HD, and ESPN News HD along with Fuse? They may be less viewed but are still viewed. E* says were supposedly dropped for carriage fees. It seems they are dropping hd channels faster than they are adding. I think their free hd for life came back to bite them in their butt because now they can't pay their hd bills.

I am getting hd soon, and I don't mind paying the $10 extra if it means D* adds more hd and isn't going to drop hd channels.

I say move on, then come back when Directv has the next channel you want and your current provider does not. I mean seriously, how many of these posts do there have to be each week in satellite forums?

Dish has never had ESPN U HD

The 4 are Disney. ABC Family, ESPNews and Disney XD

Wow that stinks. I'm glad I'm not on Dish. We watch disney, disney xd and abc family quite a bit. Shoot, they just ran all the harry potter movies on ABCF last week.
