Post your Dish offers to move from Dish HD Absolute

Thanks for starting this thread. I've tried to do searches for posts on the Absolute subject. I like the idea of HD for life, but don't want to loose more channels or pay more. I'm also getting pressured to do something different by my 13yo! She really wants the Disney channels that Dish is not currently offering. Anyone considered moving to DirectTV?

I think the reason Absolute cannot add things is that it would be a 'change' and that would END our grandfathered package.
No, I think Dish simply restricted. We could add Cinemax (the one year for one cent deal) with no issues. Also, at "My Account", I had the options to add all of the other premium channels as well as superstations. Never tried it to see if it would work though.

Yesterday I dropped Cinemax and picked up HBO since they started charging me for Cinemax on my last bill and my wife wants HBO. I did it online and it appears that it did not affect my absolute package.

I like the absolute package (price being the main reason) but there are a few channels I would like to pick up. If they would offer a decent deal I would switch to a regular package. If they do away with absolute and stick my with a lesser package for more money, my contract is up this month.

I have absolute, and haven't received a call yet. I'm on the fence about what I will do. I am paying a dvr fee AND a fee for not having my 722 hooked up to a land line, so I'm paying closer to $40 a month, and I don't really want my cost to go up. I have been happy with Absolute, although I'd like to have Fox News and BBC and MTV/VH1, so I don't know. I think for now I will just wait and see. If they make me an offer that's good I may stick around, but then if they don't I will consider jumping. I have cable DSL so streaming from Hulu, the network websites, or even using torrents to get programs the next day are all options for me. I hate to pay more for less channels, and frankly, I have not been happy since the Disney/ABC Family/Disney XD channels got yanked with no notice a while back. They're going to have to offer me something REALLY worthwhile with no jump in cost for me to stay. EDIT: Let me also say that there are a good number of channels that I seldom, if ever, watch on Absolute, so it's not just about the number of channels. I just want what would be equivalent or better with no increase, from the channels we DO watch, and I'd like to get the channels I mentioned above AND get the Disney/ABC Family/Disney XD channels back, too.

No fee anymore

You shouldn't be paying any fee for not being hooked to landline anymore. I'm in the middle of a remodel and don't have mine hooked up and there is no more fee or even the nag to hook it up.

I don't know if any of you saw my posts on the other 2 related threads. In short, I spoke to the Denver office and the latest info is that Absolute is not being discontinued as of now. The offers made were valid. The offers will not be made to everyone. The gal I talked to said we should never have been told that it was being discontinued. What Dish had in mind to begin with and what they now state are questionable. Maybe the feedback from the first calls caused them to back off. Typical Dish lack of communications - external and internal.

Anyway, if someone really wants to change, I'd call the number I finally got some decent information from: 303-723-1000. That's the corporate office, and just ask to be connected to the executive problem resolution department. They might be willing to accomodate you.

I went ahead and made the change, mainly for the RSNs and I was willing to pay the $7 a month before for them, so an increase of $10 overall wasn't a big deal. I'm not that tied into the Platinum package, so that wasn't really a factor. I do like the addition of AMC, Fox News, FX and TCM. The only channel of value I lost was VS. Anyway, got the AT200, HD For Life, Platinum for 6 mos, and no new contract at an increase of $10. The price will go up $15 in 12 mos, but we'll see what they offer then. I'm quite prepared to go to ConCast on their 6 month specials which wouldn't cost any more and I can live with just taking the 6 months deal every year at the start of the college football season and just use my OTA and Internet the other 6.

The way I see is after 6/mo the bill goes up by $10 for Platinum. Then up at least $15 after a year. You also are prone to any package price increases.

I checked out D* and for comparable programming (I was comparing the AT200) it would be about the same, but it would cost more for equipment because they have no equal to the 722. That would also require a new contract with a guaranteed increase. With no contract, I can at least bargain with Dish in 12 months or leave with no penalty. ConCast was actually a better option using their 6 month specials which I know for a fact they will extend rather than lose a subscriber in most cases - indication they have been bleeding customers. Their basic package includes more sports than either of the sat providers offer in their least expensive packages.

My situation was simply that the main reason for even having cable/sat was the college football season, so paying a lot all year just isn't palatable. I have OTA with a PVR with 4 tuners to record and high-speed internet. More than enough content for me, so if the cable/sat providers want too much for their service, they can keep it. I have a hard time dealing with the fact that ratings show that viewership is down in all venues, yet they want more money for their content. Only businesses I know of that raise prices when demand dwindles.

They will have to provide a firm cutoff date before I will even consider giving up Absolute, then they will have to pry the remote from my dead cold hands. THAT IS MY LAST OFFER. Who agrees with me.

Good exchange

All that is being said is we are HD customers. We want to stay HD customers. If we wanted combo of SD/HD we wouldn't have upped for an HD only package. If they offer us something similar then I think we would be willing to move to it. I'm gonna put up a mini-bud so that I can get FTA all the PBS HD feeds & some music channels too. It's just a fun project to me and I have most of the equipment laying around where I used to live. They don't care that I come get it and they haven't thrown the stuff away cause it is a farm and have no need fro the area where is was stored. So if E* offered a different package that was basically HD w/ some other stuff I wouldn't have a problem. But until that time I'll just stay put thru my contract. After that who knows.

Why bother? Everyone is complaining there $30 Base pack is getting dropped and that now your forced to spend more money.

So now you want a $10 DVR fee instead of $6.

Your never going to pull a fast on on Charlie.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or serious. I'll assume you're just poking fun at the way some people are reacting the the possible death of Absolute.

Yeah, everyone else can complain all they want. Ive been happy to be on the gravy train with Absolute for as long as I have. If it has to go away, I understand, and I'll choose what package is best for me. I don't understand everyone saying, thats it I'm gone if they drop Absolute, how dare they, etc etc. Dish has never done me wrong. Top notch equipment, huge selection of HD channels, and pricingo n par with the competition.
I'd sure love to have sling built into my DVR.

Before this thread devolves like the other thread, let me requote the OP

Please post your offers to move from Dish HD Absolute. This will help those of us weighing our options on sticking or moving from Dish.

..... Please keep this thread to offers ONLY. Thanks a ton in advance.
