Hello

I am trying to install my dishnet 1000.4 ( first time I have installed a satellite system ). I have been trying for 4 days to get all of the channels, but I must be doing something wrong.

this is where I am atwith the install:

- sat 61.5, getting signal strength of 72
- sat 72 getting signal strength of 60
- sat 77 getting signal strength of 70

I am locked on 61.5, but that is it. I have run numerous check switches and I can see sat 61.5 on port 1, port 2 and 3 both show connected, but do not list the satellites. I have a number of tv channels, but I an missing most of them.

After 4 days of trying to get this thing working properly, I am pretty frustrated.
Can anyone help me with this,
thanks very much.

Your matrix should show 77/72.7/61.5 sats in that order. You need to aim at 72.7 sat on the second port of the lnb. You can foil both 61.5 and 77 sats and focus on 72.7. Port 1 is for 77 sat for aiming. If your skew and elevation is correct and your dish is level and plum on the mast, you should get the three sats in the correct order. Also their is an azimuth cam that you can adjust 3 degrees either to left or right to maximize your signals on both 72.7 and 77 sats. Also elevation rod that you can adjust to maximize your peaking of the dish. It helps if you have the 1000.4 sat dish manual and follow it step by step to get it right.

I get the following signals in southeast Texas on all three sats:

77 sat between 40-50
72.7 sat in the 60s
61.5 sat between 45 - 70

When you select the orbital locations on the signal strength screen, does the message below the signal bar actually identify the correct satellites by name?
If you're truly seeing 61.5 only on port 1, with no lock on 2 and 3, you may have the reflector too far toward the East. As MikeD-C05 says, you're looking for 72.7 as the prime azimuth pointing satellite. You're close on elevation though, since you see 61.5. You might want to double check your magnetic heading for 72.7 for your location at www.dishpointer.com . If the visual there is clear enough, you can turn on the "obstacle" feature and see a visual indicator of where you need to aim instead of trying to use a compass.

If you are getting 61.5 on port #1, then you found 61.5 on the wrong port and you'll need to repostion the dish. From this position you will need to rotate your dish counterclockwise (to the left) by a lot. At my location in NC this would be about 25 degrees in azimuth. Alternatively, you can start all over again and point the dish toward 72.7. Once you find the 77 on port1, or 72 on port2, or 61.5 on port3, run a check switch. That should give you all three.

sorry but I am pretty much a rookie at this stuff, so I have a couple of follow up questions:
Since I have the cable threaded into port 3, should I change it to port 1 or 2 of the LNB ?
If I thread it into port 1, should I look for sat 77 ?, if I thread to port 2, should I be looking for sat 72 ?

Once I get this figured out ( whcih port on the LNB and which sat to try to find ), Once I get an acceptable signal strength ( 50+), it should lock on that sat, I should do a check switch and I should see all 3 sat's ?

again, I apologize for all of the questions, thanks.

Use port #2 (72.7), cover the two outer lnbs with foil and tune in 72.7 to the highest level you can get. Remove the foil and run a check switch, you should have all three sats in correct order, 77, 72.7 and 61.5.

ok, I'll give it a try.

thanks to all for your help. I'll let you know how I make out.

You're thinking is (somewhat) correct on each satellite signal being on one of the three ports, but the LNB assembly has the ability to send the signal from any one of the three individual LNB's to any one of the three output ports. The default state of the assembly is to send the signals from 77, 72.7, and 61.5 to outputs 1,2, and 3 respectively, but once you connect your receiver and run check switch commands, the defaults change. That's why people recommend physically covering the LNB windows of the positions you're not looking for.

What receiver are you using? Only MPEG4 receivers work correctly on the eastern arc. An MPEG2 receiver will see the 61.5 satellite but not 72 or 77.

from install Manuel.
Using a peaking meter attached to the DPP 1000.4 LNBF PORT 2, rough peak the dish on 72.7°W using
transponder 19 or 21 for maximum strength. Lock the mast clamp bolts (see Table 1) and re-confirm signal (page
5, steps 2 and 3).
Note: If using a peaking meter, only odd transponders will be detected from 72.7°W at this time.
8. Using the elevation rod, fine-tune the elevation angle to achieve maximum signal. Tighten the top elevation rod
nut, and then tighten the side elevation bolts marked T. Reconfirm signal after tightening all elevation bolts (page
6, step 6).
9. Using the azimuth fine-tune cam, fine-tune the azimuth angle to achieve maximum signal. Tighten the bolts
labeled with a T and reconfirm signal. Do not tighten the azimuth fine-tune cam (page 7, step 6).
10. Connect the receiver cable(s) to the DPP 1000.4 LNBF PORT 1 (and PORT 2 and PORT 3, as necessary)
and receiver (page 7, steps 7-9).
11. Run Check Switch test and confirm 61.5°W, 72.7°W, and 77°W reception (page 8, steps 10 and 11).
12. Take a software download, if you didn’t already (page 8, step 12).
13. Run a second Check Switch test and confirm 61.5ºW, 72.7ºW, and 77° reception (page 8, step 13).

Could you be more specific in your details please?:D

Hep hooking up dish 1000.4

I have an existing two wire Dish 500 and am installing a 1000.4 (three wires). The existing goes to a splitter (two-in) and (one-out). What do I need to make this work. After this forst splitter it goes to a (one-in) and (two-out). There are to locations for revievers in house. Please help.

I had the same issue. 72 kept showing up in the first slot (supposed to be 77) and I couldn't get 61.5 or 77 to register at all. I peaked 77's LNB to just get a signal. Finally got it, ran a check switch and low and behold they were all there. Peaked 72.7 then and had strong signal on all three.

Here is a crazy idea. Call dish and have a professional come out. It will be done in about 20min if you even have line of sight. If you are in the south west area of Mi, a tech could be there within 24 hours, maybe even the same day. Dont ask me how I know. ;)

I applaud you for trying to to learn something new/DIY but at this point, if you've spent 4 days trying to get it, still have no clue how to make it work, and its not coming in...its time to make the call.
