OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

Ok, and how many of the channels that you pay for now are you actually watching on a regular basis?

I bet for most people it is well under 25. Pretty much everybody is mostly paying for crap they'll never watch.

less channels then i was a few days ago, and i watch the ones we lost.

im sure many people would pay for ala carte, just so they didnt have to scan through all the crap.
how many channels does hbo give you for 10-15 a month?
if they can do it any channel can

I've got 2 dual tuner units...record lots of stuff and when there are conflicts it helps :)

Oh and I only pay $5 extra for the 2nd DVR...yes I have D* ;)

Me too. I have the 722k and 612. I pay $10 extra for the 2nd DVR and figure it is worth it although I wouldn't mind a reduction. :)

And yes, I have E* with lots of national HD, more than others and less sports, which is fine with me...

I think the Fox/Dish feud goes waaay back to when Charlie "stole" transponders from Murdoch way back in the 90's

Yes you need to disable TV Enhancements on my 625 it's Menu-6-1-7.;)

Thanks! :D

Silly Dishnetwork advertising. This isn't a free forum board that relies on adds to maintain itself.

F*** a bunch of Dishnetwork type bulls***.

*I'm still a dishnetwork sub :tux:

how do you know this? fox has not released how much its asking for, all we have is dish saying 50% increase. but 50% of what?
5 cents? $5?
fx has grown in popularity. rescue me, soa, and other original programming are putting it on the map. maybe an icrease iw warrented.

if they want to drop channels do we need all the shopping networks?

go here

the wholesale price of fx in 2009 was @ 42 cents.

At a 50% increase Fox Sports by itself will go to $3.55. That's not counting and other RSN's. This would make FX go to .63 & Nat Geo go up to .30. So There would be a substantial increase in the pay out to Fox. Even if it were just a 25% increase they would be pulling in more than almost any other multi-program provider out there.

remember thought fox sports net is something like 18 channels
so thats only 20 cents per channel
and again thats part of the sports package and can be passed one. if people object they can drop it

For those that know how this holdout stuff works, can we realistically expect this to drag on for days, weeks, months?

Nobody knows for sure. The Disney holdout has been going on for a while, but they only took away Disney HD, ESPN News HD, and mabye something else. But they left us the SD feeds.

Come the beginning of November if this is still going on, we risk losing the local Fox affiliates too (Think NFL Football, local news, etc....). I have a hard time believing Dish will allow this to happen unless they want to lose a lot of subs.

Yea we can use OTA, but most subscribers don't want to deal with a two-prong setup. They want a package that is all-in-one.

how about MSG HD?

also - does this affect center ice?

If you read through the thread this has been addressed a few different times. There is also a separate thread about this dispute and CI.

Some say it will effect CI.

Some say (including myself) that it won't because CI is a deal between the NHL and Dish Network. NHL has rights to the games, so they can provide it in the CI package. Also, people have reported that normally in the sports packages like CI, you will get feeds from networks that Dish has no contract with (YES, CBC, TSN, etc..)

sorry - i've been reading when and where i can -but if i miss a few hours at my computer then there's a good 6-8 pages that have appeared since i was last on.

very good point on the TSN, CBC et al analogy - thanks

Hope you assumption is correct about CI. The games start on Thursday and Dish has already billed me for my first of 4 installments.

To those reminding us that OTA is an option in the presence of the FOX locals being pulled:

While you'll be able to view and record the FOX affiliate programming via OTA, won't guide data be absent? I thought the channel had to be carried by DISH for the guide data to be present. So, in the absence of guide data, setting timers will be a pain (using your DISH STB, anyway).

I'm probably wrong about this, so someone set me straight.

Dish shows guide data for all the subs and channels they don't carry in my gude. It's probably linked to the tribune guides and Dish may not even control it.

Not quit true. Come November only the locally owned fox stations will be effected. Eg ktvu is a fox affiliate and is owned by cox broadcasting. Ktvu will still be on dish no matter the out come of the dis fox dispute.

i just had a thought!

dish is giving people stuff for the lost channels
i was ovvered $30, some people got $5month for a year

WHY DOESNT DISH TAKE THAT MONEY AND PAY FOR THE CHANNELS

is that making too much sense?
