OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

Well, The Red Wings kick off their season tonight and I can't watch the game - even with the free Center Ice Preview as the feed that C.I. is using is the FSN Detroit one.

You couldn't see it because the in market blackout was in place, even with the other teams feed it would have been blacked out. At least "here" in Pittsburgh I was able to tune in, FSN feed and everything, so I guess its good news for CI subs.

I don't know if its been posted yet...if it has sorry

With Fox negotiations coming up it was thought to be just the O&O ones...but the ones that use to be O&O and sold to Local TV LLC a couple years ago I gues Local LLC wants Fox to negotiate for them...so they may be gone too

Local TV LLC markets
Denver
Ft Collins
Cleveland
St Louis
KC
SLC
Milwaukee
Greensboro, NC

and the news article of one
OnMilwaukee.com Movies & TV: OnMedia: Dish subscribers may lose Channel 6 after all

and the snippet

Time for those Packers fans to "move" to Madison or Green bay. :)

Ironic how it will take an act of govt to "regulate" the system into a truly capitalist mode (where each channel gets bought/sold a la carte.. on its own merits).

Life.. the only thing stranger than fiction :)

The problem now is that it is a group of essentially monopolies. Look at FSN it is not one regional channel negotiating, it is an entire block, not to mention the added threat of OTA O&O stations, FX, Nat Geo, and Fox News.

All the providers play this game. They each have a bunch of channels to leverage the deals.

Something Has To Give With Cable TV Price Hikes - FiOS, U-Verse top JD Power study, but satisfaction drops - dslreports.com

At least now J.D.Power studies ( J.D.Power and Associates - Press Release ) are starting to show consumers are starting to wake up to all the price increases. Maybe enough of them will get angry enough to force their local congress critters to get some backbone.

well according to the latest uplink report (at the other site) E* is getting ready to pull the plug on the local fox owned channels next..(i.e.Channel 9 and 5 in NY)

It's not a monopoly. It's by design a means of providing localized sports which ESPN has never attempted to do. I'll be watching my team today on FSN for a game that wouldn't have gotten on ESPN because of lack of national interest (and it's east coast bias). We get to watch a lot of games which wouldn't be available otherwise. If you want to diss a sports monopoly, try the ESPN/ABC buyoff of the NCAA and BCS.

Yep, and thats why your still stuck with the worst ran pay television provider in the country.:p:p:p

Dish gives me the channels I watch within the price range that I am comfortable with paying, and am not ashamed to say it here or anywhere else no matter who cares or not. Nor do I have plans to be leaving any time soon. :up :hatsoff:

It comes down to 2 companies controlling most of the sports programming in the country. Perhaps not a monopoly, but a duopoly. But, they are mutually exclusive in their programming. You cannot choose to watch a Disney owned channel (ESPN/ABC) as an alternate to your RSN/FOX or vice versa.

If a cable/DBS provider does not reach terms with these two companies (like the path Dish is headed down now), there is not an alternative. NBC/CBS cannot provide these events as an alternative source.

Essentially you have these 2 companies forcing carriage of their programming at the price they name and they want it to be forced on every sub. If you consider a lot of their content is provided by tax payer subsidised means, it really gets worse. Pro teams get sweet deals on their stadiums, and how many colleges are public? I realise that not every team is subsidised directly, but in one way or another most are. Now you are paying again if you decide you want to sub to any pay TV.

Both sides contradicted the statements of the other side. I believe that is lying.

They both could be technically true at the same time. That is the art of press releases. It is rumored that Fox wants RSNs moved to AT120. This could increase Dish's costs 50% without Fox raising the price 50%. Of course neither side will reveal contract details.

Your logic is off a bit. Both could be telling the truth, neither could be telling the truth, both could be untruthful, or one truthful and one not and still have contradicting statements. Without all the details there in no way of judging, as is the case with most disputes.

Nor should you be ashamed if it is indeed the best provider for you.

Hemi was mostly joking however. But I believe his point is about those still under contract, and are now stuck with them after they start taking away many of the channels they watch. I know if DirecTV took away FSN PT during the Dodgers season, I would be pissed and immediately switch to FiOS so I can continue to watch my Dodgers

:) :up Just because I said it was the worst ran, doesn't mean I ment it was the worst provider.;)

You might not be able to judge, but I already have. I believe Fox is lying. I have e-mailed many of the sponsors of their sports networks and have asked them to request reduced advertising rates for reduced numbers of viewers. If the dispute gets settled , I do not plan to watch their networks again. I have e-mailed the BIG12 to look for a more reputable network to carry their games. I am a big supporter of Tech football, I have let them know my hope that they change TV networks. Just as many on this site have also made their decision against Dish and are changing their TV programming suppliers . I have made my decision for Dish. I believe Fox also changed the blackout rules so that we cannot get our games on the 22 additional channels dish put up above 9660. They are hoping we blame Dish and not them . Well, they lost that arguement with me.

You said nothing to proves or even hints that either side is lying.

I BELIEVE both sides are spinning the truth in their favor by only focusing on certain aspects that make them look good and the other look bad. I cannot opine on whether either side is actually lying as I have nothing to go on that would lead me to make such a conjecture or conclusion
