Let me be clearer. It's a non issue for a long time. The thread of the title is wrong.

I have a lot of Okie friends that are leaving Dish over the Oklahoma Sooner games they missed on Fox Sports Southwest. I switched to Directv but is was over being charged $34 per month for two extra HD DVR's.

Don't worry. First, it is a long long time before the contract is up. And DirecTV and Fox have a good working relationship. They will never be pulled off of DirecTV. Even if it is threatened to, it will not be for a long while

I'm excited about the switch and using the whole home DVR.

It was also nice to order from a local installer/retailer. We talked for a few minutes about the setup and it is obvious this guy knows his stuff and is passionate about what he does. Instead of ordering the service and praying they show up with the right dish/boxes.

One reason I cannot make the switch from "E" to "D". I have an external hard drive and the connection with Dish's DVR (USB) is not compatible with Directv's DVR (e-Sata). I would lose over 750gb of recordings. Plus with "D" I would have to pay for the external OTA device.

You are being very optimistic here. This may change things even for them if Fox ask the same kind of payments as they have been w/ the other providers. and end of Nov isn't that far away.

News flash, it's happening, NOW, to Dish. Only a matter of time before even the rats know to flee the sinking ship. If Dish wants to be the 'cheap option' of sat carriers (despite being relatively the same price) then they've got a lot more disputes in their future, some of them surely permanent. To stay with Dish is just living in fear of wondering which channel is going to go off the air next.

That is for sure. Here in the NYC area Fox pulled the signal from Cablevision. Cablevision is the largest TV provider in the New York City area. This means no NY Giants football or World Series games. People are complaining that they had to go to a local saloon to watch yesterday's Giant game. One guy was complaining that it cost him over $100.00 for drinks and sandwiches.

The local news is reporting that both sides are far apart. Funny how nothing is reported on the local news regarding the problems that Dish is having. It just shows you how many more people are affected by the Cablevision blackout compared to the problems on Dish.

Same reason here why I won't switch. Plus one more. My techno-phobe wife has figured out how to use the dvr. If the wife is happy, I'm happy.

Pulling the local Fox station is going to catch the attention of more people than pulling just FX, Nat Geo, and the Fox Sports Network (if they even have one). If they end up pulling the fox local stations from Dish, watch the sh*t hit the fan.

so last night I got to see Charlie's "message" on FSN...I love how he says "when I was a kid your local stations carried the local teams"...uh ok.

I'm in a similar situation. Have a 1TB hard drive that's got over 700GB of movies, concerts, TV shows, etc. stored on it. I certainly don't want to lose all the stuff I've archived, but at the same time I can't bear the thought of watching NBA games in standard definition.

I'm in a similar situation. Have a 1TB hard drive that's got over 700GB of movies, concerts, TV shows, etc. stored on it. I certainly don't want to lose all the stuff I've archived, but at the same time I can't bear the thought of watching NBA games in standard definition.

I have a feeling that it's no coincidence the two competing companies chose to use different connections, USB vs e-SATA. Does anybody make a USB to e-SATA connection cable?

"a local saloon"? Really? There are still saloons in New York? I guess I'm going to have to saddle up one of these Kentucky horses and mosey my way up there if I lose any more channels.

The connection type isn't really the issue. The video on the external drive is encrypted and locked to only work with the boxes on a specific account.
