Looking good and working good are unfortunately, not going together in some of these announced new tablets.
Take this one. Running Windows 7 and a short battery life. So where are the apps that are designed for touch coming from? Certainly not many out there for W7 today in spite of the fact that there are already a slew of W7 touch screen computers. And I believe I saw 2 hour battery life. If so, that's worse than a laptop.

The problem isn't Windows version number, it is Windows or any other desktop OS being used on a touch device, especially the ultra-portables. It is just simply the wrong OS period. Couple that with darned few applications that are not just touch useable, but designed for touch and you have the formula for the last 10 years of touch device sales failures.
Enter iOS and Android and you have 2 OS's designed to be used on a touch device. Add apps that are touch apps, not modified desktop apps, or even just touch aware and you have a better formula.

Yeah I think it just depends on what your trying to do.. Overall I think it will work fine but yeah there are somethings they could add to Windows 7 besides it touch ability to improve it on a slate. This is something they could do with a SP or just do with Windows 8.
It looks like a tablet-pc minus the keyboard. Having used one of those for awhile, I'll pass. I think Diogen's assessment is the correct one.
I'd say that was a good assessment. And it also kind of shows why desktop OS's fail on an ultra-portable touch device. Heck, touch has pretty much failed on the desktop too...
Google and Apple are the ones to watch in this space.
Oh cool, look another attempt at a Windows Tablet PC. Another Microsoft mobile device with failure written all over it. Didn’t they try Windows tablets in about 2002? And it worked so well for them back then

Getting back to Asus tablets: there quite a few of them and all get decent reviews

I think there is hope that competition will drive the prices down significantly.
Something like a 7" of Tab's specs around $250 by year end (WiFi only)...

I’ve never actually heard anyone say that about Microsoft and the gaming industry. But gaming is just about the only thing that company does right. Although with all the numerous hardware problems with the Xbox over the years, I don’t even know if I can say that with a straight face. This is what the third go around with Microsoft and cell phones? Second time around with Microsoft and tablets? Bottom line, no one wants their stuff. I highly doubt Microsoft will have anywhere near the level success that Google and Apple enjoy in the smartphone industry.

The nook might sell for that price, but you have to do a lot of work-arounds to get full Android access.
My gut says the mainline tablets will be around $400. I'd like to see it lower, but I am leery that it will happen very soon.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the WiFi-only Tab introduced at that price in a few months...
I believe Samsung milks its first mover advantage here and it's just about over.
There might not be any Tab-speced tablets by year end and the ones available will be $400.

I am just glad my wife had $300 in BB gift cards she had earned through her work, so she was willing to dish out the $250 cash for the Tablet for me.
Well for me, full Android access means full Market access. I'll admit if I didn't have the Tab, I might look at the Nook as a way to get a cheap Android tablet, but I don't like being locked out of stufff. And as I have said before, I am pretty happy with what I have.
As someone new to the tablet world i cannot say one is better than the rest, I just don't know enough. However as a recent iPad owner I do not like the fact it will not accept adobe flash. In my opinion the work around with Skyfire is dumb. For an example if I want to watch something from ESPN3 it first is uploaded to one of the Skyfire servers and then downloaded to my iPad in another format. There may be legitimate reasons for this. But for now I am confused. Why not have the conversion on the iPad, instead of uploading to a server and back. (request uploaded to ESPN3, downloaded to my iPad, uploaded to a Skyfire server converted to another format and back to my iPad) Just seems dumb to me. Plus I have to pay Skyfire 5 bucks for this? As the first tablet, I am really enjoying it. But no adobe flash sux.
