Losing HD Absolute. Any suggestions?

I just got off the phone with Dish, not totally happy but I kind of knew this day would eventually come. I switched to Dish America Silver with Platinum addon free for 1 year. Here's the break down of before and after costs:

Before:
722k Receiver serving two TVs ($6)
Dish Absolute ($29.99)
Total monthly bill + tax = $35.99

After:
722k Receiver serving two TVs ($6)
Dish America Silver ($44.99)
HD Platinum addon ($10.00)
$10 credit for one year for Platinum
Total = 50.99 + tax per month for the first year

Notes: I spoke to two different reps, there's no $10 credit for the core package. Also Platinum won't go live on my account until February 1st (I'm not really sure why but I intend to use chat to see if I can get that changed)

Are HD locals included?

Even the letter says HD Platinum FREE for the next 12 months. You got screwed.

Now I'm definitely waiting until Feb. 1st.

Ya he did.:D
I spoke to chat last night and thats the only thing they would do for me too. I told the guy i wanted $20 off for two yrs. of Everything pak and HDfree for life. He said No. I might have to fire up the 4DTV and sub too SRL for a while just to prove a point and get my HD fix on the Coolsat. It's better quality than the Cr@p E* puts out anyways. But, unfotunatly the feeds come and go.

Depends on how you see it, then you did not get a monthly credit for your core programming, which you were supposed to. You should have received both.

Yeah, this was the way I understood it. If you don't receive a credit AND get free platinum then I'm gone for sure. I've been looking at DirecTV and their MRV setup is very attractive to me. Pricing it out over a two year contract compared to two years with DishNetwork, I'd spend slightly more with DirecTV and their MRV system... but not a lot more. I was already leaning toward DirecTV for that MRV with the slightly higher overall cost. Without that credit, it's cheaper if I jump to DirecTV... makes the choice easy.

Looking at channels we watch, Dish America (the lowest plan) is best for us. We lose a few channels we watch, but with each step up in price the channels added aren't worth it. So, maybe my cost goes down for the first year?

Dish America = +30
Plan Credit = -10
Platinum = +10
Plat Credit = -10
DVR Fee = +6

Total $26 as opposed to my current $36 for Absolute and DVR.

Another q - why is everyone switching now? Why not wait until 1/31 or 2/1?

You might want to check the costs first. As you just subscribing to a comcast digital cable feed, not original masters. :(

Yes i know the cost are kind of high. But, i've heard once you do leave Dish. They maybe inclined to give a better deal to get you back. Also, why are the Dish america paks still available if the programmers do not want an all HDpak.

DISH would LOVE to have a HD only package but honestly the programmers are saying NO. :(

Have you info on exactly what we will be getting on 2-1-11 when they switch us. The HD free, free Plat, & what and how much is the credit? WE in the Absolute package really don't care if they tag the SD crap on but what are we really getting.

I am led to believe that the Dish America Paks may disappear soon, They are not as easy to find on the Dish Packages link and Dish doesn't seem to promote these packages as they once did. Tthe curious thing about the AmericaPaks is the absence off of Fox News.

I just purchased a Roku XD before Christmas and find it remarkable. It costs $8.99 a month for Netflix and $7.99 a month for Hulu Plus. They have a few other pay channels like $3.00 a year if you want to watch all the old 30's and 40's movies and other specific channels like that for a couple of bucks. Between the Roku and antenna, as soon as I find an HDMI-compatible DVR solution then Dish is gone!

Can't wait for them to make a Roku with an ATSC tuner that is also DLNA compliant. So far the TivoHD is the only animal that comes close.

I just got off the phone have tried to move my package and most of the CSR's do not have a clue of whats going on the last one I talked to said the are revaluating the packages until January 31. So everyone call to tell them you are leaving Dishnetwork. Someone may have started litigation? Hold your ground and dont change anything!!!!
