Al Jazeera English on Dish Network

I think Dish Network should reconsider carrying this channel. I've been watching live coverage of the revolution taking place in Egypt on Al Jazeera and I've been blown away at the level of journalism and depth of coverage on what is going on. It reminds me of what CNN used to be like in the early 1990s. Unfortunately I have to watch it on the internet as it doesn't seem to be available on the more than $100/month subscription I'm paying for Dish service.

I feel the same way listening to BBC World Service. There are stories that get in-depth coverage there that none of the US 24-hour news networks are covering.

I watch all the time,most channels on that satellite are in arabic but there are a few in English I enjoy

I did just fill out a programming request for Al Jazeera (English) al a carte and BBC World Service! Hopefully in the future we can offer both channels!

Well we have been also asking for years for full time HDRSN's and dish doesnt carry them. Every provider out there has Full time RSN's in HD. Dont think we will ever see them. Its sad as I will never consider dish as my service provider of choice without them. Once they get them, then I may reconsider.

I would like a request for these channels also. What is going on in the ME could really hurt the US I have asked for help to get me a FTA system installed but nobody around me is willing to help. It is like FTA is a thing of the past here where I live

Thanks for the response and entering the request. It would really be nice if Dish offered up a package of these kinds of channels without requiring all the channels that I don't watch now because they have turned themselves into nonsense. CNN, FOX, MSNBC (and their derivatives) don't really offer up much in the way of relevant news anymore. As time goes on I find it harder to justify the expense of the programming packages given the quality of what is on them these days. Something such as a package of international english news channels could sway me to remain a Dish customer.

It is a great channel, in fact I know several people that work out of the DC office, but if/when dish ever gets a contract to carry AJE I can guarantee the FTA (free to air) feed at 97 west will be gone within months and they will be charging 9.99 a month for a service which is free now, so be real careful what you wish for here everybody.

I second that topcat5. I would take that over sports any day. Infact If I don't want sports why should I have to pay for it. This is some serious times in the world and more people are concerned about sports then real live events that could impact on our lives. I would love to also see CNN international added. All of this stuff could get very out of hand and serious and our national networks care more about movie stars, sports, u name it

Different people watch tv for different reasons, I don't think there is anything wrong if someone considers sports their most entertaining choice instead of news. To each his own. These categories aren't even mutually exclusive since 118.7 isn't used for sports channels anyway.

What all is on 97w? BBC World? Last time I looked into setting up a FTA dish, BBC World wasn't out there. I don't want a bunch of Arabic language channels. I want international English language channels.
