I am looking for a router that doesn't drop connections and have to be restarted constantly. Seems the more I look into all brands that they are all trash! Someone tell me what router out there that wont do that annoying stuff.

I've been using Apple's Airport products for quite a number of years with no issues ever. Their current Airport Extreme is superb and supports 802.11(a,b,g,n) and both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. A bit pricey compared to some, but you can usually find them on the Apple Store online in the 'special deals' as refurbs for $129. Full year warranty.
A side benefit in the Airport product is that the warranty is attached to your Mac. For instance, I added another AE to my network mix to extend the range about the same time I purchased my 27" iMac. I got the Applecare for the iMac which gives 3 years of coverage, which extends to my AE.

My DIR-655 has been running non-stop since purchase; over 1yr.... that entire DIR series 615, 655, 665, 825, 855 has won many awards. worth a look...

The WRT 54G I had here was pretty good for reliability but I did have to reset it about 6 times a year or so. To be fair, I also had to reset the cable modem as well. Comcast said it was normal to have to do this. BUT, the Linksys product had a major flaw that I could not tolerate. It has very weak signal. It would barely reach a 50 ft radius using their extended range anttenna and half that with the standard antennas.
So, I decided to try a Net Gear product and while this one has excellent range, I have to reset ( power cycle) once or twice a week because it just stops doing it's DHCP duty. So far I am eager to learn of a router that works as requested by the Thread starter and has the range I need.

I used a Linksys WRT54GS for a few years and then three years ago bought the WRT600N. It was a short lived and expensive (I think I paid about $250 for it at Best Buy) Linksys router that can do everything under the sun. Wireless A,B,G,N support simultaneous use of the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands, USB storage link, gigabit Ethernet support. Good stuff, but truth be told I hate WIFI, I’ll take hardwired over wireless any day. Only wireless components in my network are my printer and occasionally I’ll hook my Evo up to WIFI. But it has been a great router, no problems with it whatsoever, just like my old WRT54GS. When it comes to routers I’d always look at Linksys first.

You apparently have never used a linksys after cisco bought them out, they crash all the time.

My D-Link DIR 655 never crashes at home. For my businesses I use Cisco (real cisco not linksys), they are on UPSes so they can go years without rebooting (i.e. long power outage).

It wasn't around for that long before Cisco discontinued it. It seemed like it came out, then 6 months later you couldn’t find it anywhere as the new fad was routers without external antennas. I recommended this router to a friend of mine for gaming so he could use one band for gaming and one for the rest of his network as there's constantly 4-5 people at any given time in his house using something WIFI related. I bought the router in April 2008, by the time the Fall hit you couldn't find this router anywhere. My buddy never did end up getting a new router now that I think about it.
I would like to try it out but it kinda comes off like it won't work with linux. I assume it will with windows xp. Otherwise I have been through D-links and linksys.
Often times it is NOT the router which causes the reboot as much as the ISP/cable modem. With comcrap I used to have to reset my Linksys - AND then BELKIN - routers regularly, but much of it was due to DNS issues. Dumped Comcrap's DNS servers in favor of Google Public and Open DNS (on my kid's machines with filters enabled) and the Belkin Wireless N router has not had to reboot at all.
The Apple routers can't be set up with Linux as they don't use a web browser to do it, it is an app. It can be set up with OSX or Windows, but I'm not sure if the app will run in a virtual machine with windows. Once set up, it will of course, work fine with any OS.
