I checked around and was wondering if Dish has or plans to, offer special deals to exiting Dish customers. I see they are giving new customers free Blockbusterfor 3 months but I didn't see anything for existing customers.

I use to be a Blockbuster customer and liked the fact that they shipped new releases on the first day of availability instead of the 26 day wait like Netflix and Redbox. When they went into bankruptcy their service really started to suck but now that Dish owns them, I'm hoping they went back to the great service they use to have.

Any know if they have specials for existing customers and if their service got better since Dish took over?

I agree but they don't. Maybe one the the 'Dish Staff' members can find out. I'd be interested in going back to Blockbuster mail service again but I don't want to pay for the crappy/slow service they had when they were in bankruptcy. If I had the service free for a month or two (giving three months to new customers) I'd be able to tell.

It was nice when they were doing well and fully maintained their mailing center here in Phoenix where all of my rentals initially came from, but when they tried to cut costs while they were in bankruptcy, they shipped new releases from different locations. If movie 'A' shipped from Phoenix, I got it the next day. Movie 'B' would come from another distribution center and it would be 3 - 4 days before I got it.

If they're back to full operations and stock all new releases at all distribution centers, I'll sign up with Blockbuster in a flash. This 26 day wait for new releases sucks.

Hi Mary - I'm interested in trying this offer as well. Were you able to find a way to apply it to existing subscribers?

I am interested in this as well. With Netflix going to 7.99 for one DVD being charged separate from the 7.99 streaming plan, it may be worth it to switch to Blockbuster for 11.99 with the ability to exchange at the store 5 times per month, and not having the 28 day new release window. But I'm not sure how quickly they ship and would love to try it out. Please let us know what you find out.

I can if the account qualifies. Send me your account information (account# or Phone#, Name of Account Holder and the Security Code, 4 digit pin#) and I will be happy to review the account. Thank you!

Yeah, same here. The extra charge for bluray, 28 day windown, and now seperate charge for streaming makes it less worthwhile. I'm thinking of going to stream only and looking at BB for discs.

If you PM me your account information ( account number, phone number) I can take a look to see if you qualify.

Thanks alot Zach.

Now the question is, how does Blockbuster's mail selection compare to Netflix? Anyone out there used both and can tell?

Thanks alot Zach.

I've used both. As far as selection, I haven't noticed any difference. Every movie I've wanted to see has been available on both services. I have heard that Netflix has a greater selection of older/more obscure titles.

What about turn around time on disc. In Louisville, KY, I can usually get 2 disc a week from Netflix. (I have the 1 disc at a time & streaming for $13.00)
Ghpr13:confused:

I am not a heavy user, but turnaround time was equally good for NF and BB (except for a small period where BB was having major issues).

Just to let everyone know, Blockbuster has issued a press release today about a new service they are offering in response to the Nexflix price increase. You can sign up for this promotion on the home page of Blockbuster.com id you are interested! I just wanted you to be aware of all the options available to you all!

Mary, I got your PM and it's nice to know that I am eligible for the three free months. Thanks so much for checking for me! As usual, my experience with Dish is that you have very good customer service and are quick to respond to questions.

One quick question please...the three free months then goes to $11.99 whereas the Netflix promotion is only 30 days free but goes to $9.99...is that correct? If so, I think I'd rather do the 30 days free and save $2 per month since you break even in less than a year and are then saving money over the three free months. Can you confirm this is accurate?

Thanks again!

I noticed the same thing... I was just going to post this. It did say $11.99 when I went to sign up:

1 Disc at a time By Mail +
99 free in-store exchanges per billing month

$0.00/ mo. + tax
$11.99/ mo. + tax (after trial period)

Indeed I held off on this. I'll wait to see what the response to this is first.

Jay

Yes, I have gone over both promotions and they seem to have the same benefits. Netflix promotion is $9.99 a month with 30 day free trial and the 3 month promotion is $11.99 with 3 months free which will save $1.98 over the course of the first year. Netflix promotion will be a cost benefit after the first 12 months.

Thank you for checking. I'll go with the Netflix offer of 30 days free and then $9.99.

The math looks like this for the first 12 months like you said:
Netflix Plan $9.99 x 11 months (1 free month) = $109.89
Dish Plan $11.99 x 9 months (3 free months) = $107.91

You break even in month 13 and from then on you have $2.00 per month savings. :D

Another BB positive, they do games too. Also for those who don't rent alot switch to the $5.99 plan after the free trial.
