Hello all
I am new to this and requiring some assistance after snooping around all this week. So I got a Vip211k that i would like to setup for use in my bedroom and my shop on the opposite side of the farm. I have the old dish 500 system, except for the receivers. It has two lnbf`s one says 110 other 119. Originally, one went to one receiver and the remaining one to the other. I got the vip211 hooked into one (not sure which one) and I have attempted to aim it at 110. with not luck at all. Not sure if the mast coming from the roof should be level for the recommended adjustments? I did the check switch and i can lock onto 129 pretty easily and get about a 75 signal. I also have two direct tv dishes that were setup to work with one another along with a dish pro switch and was wondering if any of these could be used to get all three satellites?

You will need a 1000.2 dish for Western Arc HDTV. If you are an existing customer call DISH to see what they will do for you. If new customer why are you playing with equipment instead of getting a free install.

I was told i would have to sign a service contract and have another account because the shop is not on the same tract of land and its not in my name, and i rent the house i live in. Im basically on my own after a stop at the local dish retailer and a call to customer support. I have all this equipment, im pretty sure i can at least get the regular programming from the dish 500, if i can find the dang satellite. This shop is a random deal. I may not bring the receiver to the shop for weeks, and when i do it will be for like a weekend or so. Not having the HD is not that important, but if i already have the equipment i would like to make it work.

"Account stacking" is the term that applies to what you're trying to do. It is a violation of the terms and conditions of your agreement with DISH Network as I would guess they've already explained to you.

On the subject of your other problem, you're aiming the wrong dish at the wrong satellite.

Well they did not say anything about stacking but did say that i would have to prove i owned both places, which i don`t. Still, im paying for the service, i just dont want to take the dish down from the house every time i want to watch the race at the shop. Legal is bring the whole system, illegal is take may receiver with me and hook it to the pre installed dish at the shop. but if i spend a half a million dollars and buy up both places that im practically getting for free now, then its legal. Either way im not worried. the amount of time i will be using it at the shop the likeliness of being caught is little to none. When i was trying to point the 500 yesterday the only sat i could find was 129, but this is my first time aiming one of these bad boys.

You don't have to take the dish down, you only have to give them the new service address.

You can have as many dishes as you want; the dish isn't of any use without an active receiver.

so lemme understand this (from one Minnesotan to another) ;)

You currently have Dish with more than one receiver set up at the house. You want to sometimes take the 211 to the shop for a day or a couple right?

If thats what you're looking to do then its rather easy. But I have a question
Has the 211 been activated yet or are you still setting it up?

If it has been activated already and working on the house setup when you get to the shop I would recommend doing a check switch that would clear everything in the receiver switch wise. Menu 6-1-1 then go to check switch. It will remove the existing switch setup and allow you to set up the Dish 500.
If it is a new unit then you dont need to do that. In the menu setup (6-1-1) select satellite 119 transponder 19 or 20. That will help aim the dish. Once the dish is aimed then do a check switch so the receiver knows what sats youre getting

You can use dishpointer.com to enter your location and it will show what the Dish settings should be (elevation, skew, etc). Since you put "South Wasteland" as your loc I dont know what part of Minnesota that is considered. Worthington? Albert Lea? Winona? Fairmont? Lots of places could be called that ;)

Dont worry about telling Dish what you want to do. The CSR's don't understand it. If the receiver isnt on the account when you get it set up, just call and tell them you want to add a receiver to the account.

It may "technically" be account stacking... I don't know for sure how Dish would classify it. But I don't see how this is any different than folks who take their receiver to the lake for the weekend... which happens all the time.

From a physical setup stand point, I would think that the easiest thing to do is to forget about trying to re-use that D500. I would just buy another dish that is identical to the one at your house. That way, you don't have to keep doing "check switches" every time you move the receiver.

Your house probably has a 1000.2 dish. If that's the case, you can pick one up on the flea for around 50 to 60 bucks. I would consider that money well spent to make both locations the same, and facilitate ease of movement between the two.

Cheers

Correct, about a month ago i had the system professionally installed, two vip211k`s, and a slim-line dish. The cable in the bedroom is not installed yet because I am putting new electrical in the room. walls are all tore apart and such. I do no have the smart cards yet but the one downstairs works fine. When i got home the second receiver was still in the box, but the box was opened. I did a check switch last night on the 500 and it came up with 110 and 119 with DPP i believe. but it said n.c. for 129. Azimuth of 201 it think. Pulled out the Android compass, did a cal, and pointed the dish in the general area. LNBF`s position at the bottom of the dish. Elevation set to what the screen said. But the pole coming from the angled roof? Where the dish mounts to the round pole- does that pole need to be straight up according to a level?... Also i did not change the transponder numbers, but i tried both 119 and 110. I could not find any signal from either after about twenty minutes of sweeping the south west sky. I got a signal but its name came up as 129. When i left it on 129 it pulled up the guide but none of the channels will come in. i have a Tv so i can see it from the roof. I mounted the dish to the already existing Direct tv dishe stand/pole. 56172- Slayton, MN. I come from a county: you will never see a stop light, you cannot buy a new car here, and a train has not been seen for over a 100 years. bum f-ed egypt basically.

ok that works

On the newer receivers the card is built in to the receiver so dont worry about that

yes the mast needs to be level (plumb). My dishes are on a sloped roof and they work fine.

if you got 129 then you were very close. The elevation needed to be a little higher. Also you have to move the dish slow in the vicinity of the area. This allows the receiver to acknowledge the signal (especially if its a lower signal)

I would change the info in the menu to satellite 119 transponder 19

heard of Slayton before. Use to live in a town like that. Heck the county only had one stop light

As for the eleavtion and such on the DIsh 500 I get these numbers
elevation 36
azimuth 203
skew 72 (on the back of the dish turn the dish to 72. If you are holding the dish and behind it, the left side of the LNB will be higher than the right

SLIMLINE DISH or 1000.2?

This talk about account stacking just kills me. We're talking about 1 person who would like to have his programming and TV at another location once in a while. What is the difference with a sling box? Nothing as far as I can tell, except it's not called stacking. Someone please enlighten me....................

You have to buy the sling box and have high speed internet at both locations.
