HELLO I AM GOING TO SUBSCRIBE TO DISHNETWORK AND POINT MY DISH TO 61.5 THATS WHERE THE ROCHESTER LOCAL CHANNELS ARE BUY A FRIEND TOLD ME THAT THOSE LOCALS ARE GONE IN THE 61.5 IS THIS TRUE IF SO WHERE CAN I GET THOSE CHANNELS

I NEED HD LOCAL CHANNELS THAT ARE CONUS AND IN THE 61\110 OR 119 BECAUSE I AM OUTSIDE OF THE US WHERE DO I POINT MY DISH

Most locals are not conus, they are only able to be seen in a very small area via spot beam.
Second, you would need to be able to tell Dish you live in the area that is allowed to get a local station. For instance to get the NY city locals, they would have to be Conus, not spot beam, and you would need to be able to tell Dish you live at an address in the NY city locals area. Just pointing your dish won't get any locals.

If you can settle for SD, you may have a better chance with getting San Francisco and NY from All American Direct, who provides service through Dish.......

According to "The List", Rochester, NY HD locals are available on 61.5. SD Locals are available on 110. If you are really located in Panama as your ID states you will not receive them there because they are a spot beam and you will be outside its footprint.

Whoever told you that they were gone must have been wrong because otherwise we would more than likely have heard about it here on this fourm first. According to the link posted by antimoz, they are still on 61.5.

i just dont want to subscribe with a rochester zip code then they would take away the hd loclas from conus to spot that way i would loose them I NEED HD LOCAL CHANNELS ON CONUS THAT THEY WILL STAY CONUS AND NOT MOVE TO SPOT, DOU YOU GUYS KNOW ANYTHING LIKE THAT

SO WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST FOR ME IN ORDER TO RECEIVE LOCAL CHANNELS AT THIS POINT I DONT CARE WHERE THE LOCALS ARE FROM I JUST WANT TO RECEIVE THE MAYOR 4 NETWORKS IF I CAN GET THEM IN HD I WILL SETTLE FOR SD LOCALS WHAT ZIP CODE SHOULD I PROVIDE A FRIEND TOLD ME TO PROVIDE NEW YORK NY ZIP CODE TO GET THEM WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST

There is no guarantee that any of the HD locals or even SD locals that are conus at this time will remain so.

The trend is in the other direction and we are not in a position to guarantee anything that any provider can or will do.

More on Rochester

I'm a little late to this discussion, but I essentially have the same question as the original post. I live in the US Virgin Islands half the year, Rochester NY the other half. I would really like to get Rochester locals in the USVI. Maybe there is a FTA solution??? My dish box, which is a 722K, which can take a FTA feed or an OTA signal with an MT2 module, and could be moved to the islands easily with Dish, but I will then get Puerto Rico locals, and when I travel home with my box, I'd have to change the zip each time. So I guess this comes down to "how do you get local channels into your dish system other than through DISH and can you get Rochester in the USVI. Thanks. Any ideas you guys may have would be great.

I am not aware of a way to get Rochester locals for you. If you picked NYC, or San Francisco for instance, yes.

Rochester, NY HD locals (big 4 & PBS) are on 61.5 CONUS so as long as you can see 61.5 you should be able to get them

I think 61.5 though possible is very iffy at USVI looking at the map for him may be worth the try.

All kinds of moves are likely in the next 9 months with some maybe starting within a month or so.

I'd guess it's a high probablility that Rochester will go spot beam on 61.5W when Echostar 16 launches (sometime after July 2012), so you can not count on it for continued long term service. Same for the other cities presently on 61.5W conus.

Consider 77W. Quetzsat 1 will be in service sometime around Nov 1 this year and will have a strong signal in Panama. The Dish 77W transponders are presently being used for locals so that is your best hope for long term service. But again, a bunch of those locals may move to 61.5W next summer/fall.
