Blockbuster Movie Pass performance thread

Just got back from BB store and had no trouble exchanging the mailed disk for a store copy of a new release. Just also received an email advising that when I return the store copy they will release the next available DVD in my cue. Unfortunately, out of 11 DVD's in my cue 8 of them are listed as unavailable and 2 are very long wait. I finally found an old 1974 movie that was OK so I'll bet that is what they will send. I'm going to have to spend some time trying to find titles that are available. My personal problem is I have already seen most of what they probably stock. Looking forward to viewing some old 1960's westerns however. :) At this rate I don't see an advantage of increasing my BB account to 3 out at a time and reducing the in store account to one at a time. That would have saved money but the mail order selection seems quite limited for me.

That's strange because I usually find that if a movie is available one way but not the other it's usually the by mail service that has it not the store. That might just be my local store though. I have noticed that sometimes my store will have a movie available on bluray when the mail service only has it available on DVD though. My store also has a very limited section of TV series but most of them are available by mail.

As I reported yesterday, my first BR was damaged, so I reported the problem. I also put the bad disc in the mail yesterday. Got notification TODAY it was received. So a one day return means I must be relatively close to a distribution center.

Don, did they make you "open an account"? Or how did that work?

I've used both Netflix and Blockbuster and with the recent surge in new Blockbuster customers thanks to the Blockbuster Movie Pass deal Dish now has, I hope they realize that they need to purchase more copies of new releases if they want to keep their customers happy.

I was a long time Blockbuster By Mail customer until they went into bankruptcy. Before that happened, they would mail new releases on Mondays so the customers had them on Tuesdays (in large cities where they have distribution centers). I was on a 3-at-a-time plan at that time and always got the new releases when they were released. When they started having trouble, I was sometimes lucky to get one of the new releases in my queue. I dropped them and went to Netflix, but hated the fact that a lot of their new releases were subject to the 28 day wait.

After Dish bought Blockbuster I got one of those Blockbuster for free for 90 days deals to test out the service and I found that it was back to what it was before bankruptcy. I have the one-at-a-time plan and with the store exchange program, the plan works out great because I just take the new DVD that was mailed to me to my local store and get the next DVD in my queue. So far, so good.

Like I said earlier if there was a big surge of new Blockbuster customers due to Dishes Blockbuster Movie Pass deal, they are still going to need to purchase more copies of new releases for both the stores and distribution centers if they want to keep their customers happy.

Signed up on Saturday. Movie shipped on Monday from Miami to St Croix in US Virgin Islands. Mailing time was the same as Netflix from NJ.

I have an account already with the store, not existing mail order though. I picked up my two store MP and one exchange mail MP. Since I got an e-mail within minutes of handing her the envelop with disk, I assume it is all credited by network, not by a physical receipt of the disk at the center. That is really good as it is one more way the system saves delivery time by the mail. If the system works the way they claimed in the e-mail, then they should mail the next one in the cue tomorrow when I return the store rental. It still puzzles me why they only mailed my disk3 business days after they had my cue list. Remains to be seen if that is SOP of just the first time around.

4 day shipping for me I guess.. Mine shipped Monday.. Scheduled delivery is Friday Oct 7. Thought it might come earlier but it didn't make it today.. 4 day ship is a bit much if you ask me..

Mine also shipped on Monday and I still have not received it. 4 days will not work for me. That is if I even receive it tomorrow. I will give it a few weeks. I only watch on weekends and if I cannot get one every weekend I have no use for it.

FYI: In the past I have received the same damaged/bad disc back in return. After verifying by marking the disc I called and complained. I was advised to hold any damaged/bad/wrong disc until I could see it's replacement had been shipped.

Are there any tricks to get a movie to ship? I have 30 or so titles in my que, I signed up on Tuesday, nothing has shipped yet as of now. I'm wondering if something is setup wrong on my account.

Notified it WAS shipped.

I signed up on Monday and today is Friday and I am in the same boat -- nothing has shipped. I have maryb from DIRT on the case though!

I also signed up on Monday and as of today, nothing has shipped. It seems like blockbustermoviepass is not ready for the prime time. It is time to say good bye to moviepass and say hello to netflix/quickster.

I agree with you. The time it takes to get a movie is about 4 days from the day they shipped it. I'm a "mover", so there was some trouble getting it straight to ship it to my billing address over my service address and I had to contact Blockbuster company itself to change it, but now it looks like it will be another 4 - 5 days to get my FIRST blu ray from them. IF this is the normal speed of delivery, I can see why Netflix kicked BlockBuster's ass in the first place.

The mail service is working flawlessly and very quickly for us...and since the nearest store is a one hundred fifty mile round trip we are as happy as pigs in a puddle. Thanks Dish !

What's odd is I had blockbuster before netflix a long time ago and thought the shipping was fine and the in store Exchange was cool. If I remember, I switched to get a better price when netflix was new. Maybe the bankruptcy, lack of cash cut into the shipping efficiency prior to Dish purchase.

I just mailed mine back. The address is a city away, so it should be quick, but because they don't ship on weekends, my next disc won't be mailed for a bit. I'm wondering the max disc rentals that can be had with one out at a time, seems like one a week.

Here would be an improvement. It'd be great if they could receive a signal from a disc that has been mailed back. Once the disc has been scanned by the Post Office, that tells BB their disc is in the system. Then that means they automatically send out the next disc in the queue. Less waiting time and more efficiency, if you had a one-disc plan, you couldn't have more than two discs in the mail at one time. Granted, it'd cost them a little more in shipping costs if they shipped more discs over a month's period. But that would also mean happier customers, and more customers.

That's pretty happy. :D

Not the exact same thing by any means but just wanted to say that if you do the in-store exchange, when you turn in the store exchange it is scanned back in to inventory and the BB shipping facility is notified to send the next movie in your queue without waiting for it to be returned by mail. For example, Saturday I go to the store and exchange my mailed disc for a store disc. I return the store disc on Sunday, and on Monday BB ships my next disc without waiting for the store to send back my mailed disc.

Obviously that doesn't help those without a local store but it is a cool feature for those of us who do have one.
